Narrative,
The long-awaited day had arrived, the final, the championship the game that every player had dreamed of since starting their college career. But most unfortunately, it was the last ever game of college basketball for three very special UConn girls. Aaliyah, Nika...and Camille. The result tonight would determine their legacy and determine their faith in themselves and as a team after a rough start to March Madness.
These girls, this team meant everything to each person. They were each other's ride or dies. They were the fans' ride or dies, today determined whether all the work paid off. Whether the constant pain and overwork that Camille had gone through and trained for throughout the season had paid off.
Tonight meant everything.
Camille and Paige anxiously had breakfast together in their hotel. Neither girl spoke a word to each other, they were too nervous about the upcoming game. This was the first game in March madness that they were going to be plating back together so hopefully the team improved with the girls.
Both girls chewed down into their breakfast until one of them broke the silence.
"You're wearing it," Paige said softly with a smile.
"huh?" Camille questioned, not knowing what the Blonde was referring to.
"The necklace" she smiled as she reached over the table they were sitting at and gently caressed Camille's necklace. It was a dainty little gold necklace with Camille's lucky number on it, 18. Paige had got it for Camille's birthday ages ago back in their junior year before they even started dating.
"I never really took it off P" she replied calmly.
"what?"
"I never took it off, it's my everyday necklace that I have worn for the past two years. Even when we were broken up, it made me feel closer to you" Camille said as she looked Paige in the eyes, both looking at each other with a sense of sorrow.
Suddenly Paige pulled Camille in for a soft kiss, their lips melted against one another kissing for a few seconds before splitting.
"I love you" they both accidentally whispered in unison causing them to chuckle.
"Alright..." Paige said as she ate the last bit of her pancake and changed the topic.
"We are going to win today, as long as we bring that connection. This is our last game together for a while, let's make it count baby" she said as she started to get up and leave, giving Camille another kiss as she did.
If only they could have stayed in the moment of that morning forever...
**
The moment had arrived both teams had come in from completing their warmups, all huddled in the locker rooms getting ready to come out and expose themselves to the basketball world and the thousands of fans that had pulled up to the game. The sold-out arena and young girls and boys who were inspired by the women's basketball movement were counting on them right now. They were counting on Uconn, they were counting on the girls, the girls were counting on their teammates and Paige and Camille were counting on each other.
