Yeji's Pov:
"Hyunjin!" I shout again, voice trembling as the smoke thickens, clouding my vision. My mind is racing-Hyunjin is my twin, the missing piece of my past that I never knew existed. And yet, just moments before this revelation, he pushed Felix out of the window. The image of Felix falling keeps replaying in my mind, gnawing at my gut.
The smoke burns my lungs, making it hard to breathe, and I stumble backward, trying to find some clarity. What the hell is happening? Who threw the smoke bomb? Is Felix even alive?
I cough violently, squinting through the haze, trying to find Hyunjin again. My heart beats erratically, torn between the shock of finding him and the fury bubbling up inside me. How could he have done this? How can he stand there like nothing just happened?
The sound of heavy footsteps echoes through the room, and my instincts sharpen. "Hyunjin, where are you?" I choke out again, hoping against hope that he's still here, still within reach.
Suddenly, a hand grabs my arm, yanking me through the smoke. I tense, pulling my gun in reflex, but when I spin around, I'm met with Hyunjin's face, barely visible through the gray fog. His eyes-those same familiar eyes-are wide with something between panic and frustration. His grip is tight, almost desperate.
"We need to go!" His voice cuts through the confusion, firm but layered with emotion.
I wrench my arm free, anger flashing in my chest. "You pushed him! You-Felix-" I can't even finish the sentence. My voice cracks, and I hate how weak it sounds.
Hyunjin's face hardens. "Yeji, I didn't-there's no time for this. We're not safe here."
But all I can think about is Felix. My partner, my friend-pushed out of the window by my own brother. My twin brother. The contradiction tears at me, my anger mixing with the confusion swirling in my head.
"Why, Hyunjin? Why did you-?" I gasp, tears burning in my eyes, my vision blurring from both the smoke and the overwhelming emotions crashing down on me. My legs feel weak, my knees trembling.
Before I can get an answer, the sound of a door crashing open echoes through the room. A figure moves swiftly through the smoke, and I can't make out who it is until I hear Hyunjin's sharp intake of breath.
"Soobin..."
"Seriously Yeji? You thought you could send me to the jail so easily?" Soobin says "expected something better from the best detective" he adds
"Seriously? You think they let you go because you're a part of the Choi family? Stop being delusional, now I know why you and Yeonjun are cousins. Well you're here because I wanted you here..." I reply feeling annoyed.
Soobin's smirk curls through the haze, his silhouette towering in the smoke-filled room. I can feel his arrogance even before he speaks again, and it sends a fresh wave of anger crashing over me.
"You think you're clever, don't you, Yeji?" he taunts. "Always thinking ten steps ahead. But look at you now. Felix is probably dead, and you're standing here with your precious brother, just as trapped as I planned."
His words dig into me like shards of glass, and I grip my gun tighter, my knuckles white. Soobin's involvement twists everything even more. He's right-I should've expected more from him, should've known he wouldn't just sit quietly behind bars. But this-this was too personal. And now Felix might be gone because I wasn't paying attention.
Hyunjin shifts beside me, his stance growing more defensive, ready to act, but I still don't know if I can trust him. He's my twin, my blood, but how can I ignore what he did?
