Yeji's Pov:
As we walk through the dimly lit hallway, the tension from the earlier fight still lingers in the air. My mind is spinning, trying to process everything that’s happened. Soobin’s death, the cryptic truths he hinted at—it’s overwhelming. But there’s something else nagging at me, something I haven’t been able to shake since that moment on the rooftop.
I glance at Hyunjin, still unsure of how to bring it up. But I have to know. After what I saw him do to Felix, it doesn’t make sense.
“So… about Felix,” I finally say, my voice quiet but firm. “You said you love him. But then you pushed him out of a window. How does that even begin to make sense?”
Hyunjin’s steps falter for a moment before he sighs, rubbing the back of his neck. “I knew you’d ask me that.”
I keep my gaze on him, waiting for his answer.
“Look, Yeji, I didn’t push Felix to hurt him. I… I knew what it looked like, but it wasn’t what you thought.” His voice is steady, but there’s an undercurrent of emotion there, something deeper than he’s letting on.
“So what then?” I press. “You just threw him out of the window for fun?”
Hyunjin shakes his head, a wry smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. “I planned ahead. I had a friend set up a huge inflatable balloon near the ground. It was positioned so it would catch Felix’s fall. He wasn’t in any real danger.”
I blink, taken aback by his answer. “An inflatable balloon?”
“Yeah,” Hyunjin continues. “I know it sounds crazy, but I couldn’t take any risks. I knew if we didn’t act fast, things would get even more out of control. And Felix… he’s important to me. I wasn’t going to let anything happen to him.”
I frown, still processing. “And your friend?”
Hyunjin nods. “I asked him to take care of Felix for a while. Keep him safe until everything calms down. Felix doesn’t know about the bigger picture, and for now, I need to keep it that way.”
His explanation leaves me feeling conflicted. On one hand, I’m relieved that Felix is safe—that Hyunjin really does care about him. But on the other, I’m left wondering just how far Hyunjin is willing to go to protect the people he loves, and what that means for everything else happening around us.
I glance at him again. “You’re really in deep with this, aren’t you?”
Hyunjin looks at me, his eyes serious. “Deeper than I ever expected, Yeji. But I can’t stop now. Not until this is over.”
I nod, a strange sense of understanding passing between us. We’re both caught in something bigger than we can fully comprehend. And no matter how tangled our feelings are, we have to keep moving forward.
"Wait, but friend? What friend?" I ask, narrowing my eyes at him. The way Hyunjin speaks so casually about this mysterious person has me on edge.
He just smirks, his lips curling up in that infuriatingly cryptic way he always does. "You know him too, I guess. You'll be happy to meet him."
The smirk doesn’t ease my mind; it only heightens my suspicion. My mind races through the possibilities. Who could it be? Someone from my past? Someone from our unit? Why would Hyunjin think I’d be happy to see them?
I stop walking and turn to face him, crossing my arms. "Don't play games, Hyunjin. Who is it?"
He chuckles lightly, clearly enjoying the moment. "Patience, Yeji. You’ll find out soon enough. Trust me, when the time comes, everything will make sense."
