It was a Saturday, which meant Orchestra practise. I wasn't dreading it, I was actually quite excited to play the piano again.
Everything was normal- everyone tuned their instruments according to the piano, we played scales, went over the basics, even played an easy piece.
It was ruined when Flitwick got on the podium and said, "As many of you know, we lost one of our own in June. Her death has caused a lot of sadness and I think we should honour her. Toni, what was your sister's favourite song?"
Him asking me this threw me off. "Pavane by Ravel." It wasn't really her favourite, it was mine, but it was the only song I could think of.
"Song for a Dead Princess? Very fitting. I will get sheet music for everyone and we will start learning it next Saturday." He dismissed us.
I ran out of that room and down the stairs so fast. The idea of needing to play a song for my sister because she was dead now was too much for me to handle.
I went to the alcove in the Transfiguration courtyard after that and looked up at the sun shining through the green and gold stained glass windows, reflecting the colours on the water beneath. How had I gotten so caught up in everything that I forgot how beautiful my favourite place in the castle was? I loved how structurally sound you could tell the castle was by the stones surrounding the little pond in front of me.
"Fred and George told me I might be able to find you here. Are you all right?" a familiar voice asked.
I turned around and smiled at Harry. "I'm fine. Welcome to my favourite place." I held my hand out and he took it as he stood next to me.
His mouth dropped in awe as he looked up at the view. "Wow! How have I never known this was here?"
"It's kind of hidden, if you think about it. I mean, hundreds of people probably walk by it everyday and just see the rocks and think nothing of it. It's only when you get up close that you see the pond and the waterfall, the bridges, the towers. I've seen people stand on the other end and look up, but you can't see the waterfall then."
"Wow, you're right."
"Most people probably think the statue is a bit grim, too. It's about heartbreak- something nobody ever wants to feel."
"I don't," he said quickly.
I watched Harry take in my favourite spot. Every little detail he noticed and pointed out. "Can this be our spot? Like if I said, 'Meet me at our spot.' you'd go here."
"I'd like that, yes," I said with a smile. "But don't go around telling people about this, or it won't be special anymore."
He slid his pointer and thumb across his lips and turned his wrist. "My lips are sealed."
Yes, they were. His perfectly pink, supple, kissable lips.
"I brought your music player in case you were sad. I'll stay here and listen with you, you just pick the song."
Rachmaninoff Symphony No. 2 Adagio was what I chose. It was one I knew by heart. The strings swelled several times throughout the piece and it was very romantic sounding. It was the perfect piece to have a first kiss to.
"Do you have fifteen minutes? I promise it's a good one."
"I have nowhere else I'd rather be."
We sat in silence as the music played through the headphones wrapped around my neck. I wanted Harry to get the idea that this was a romantic song, but he just said it was pretty.
"This is what I imagine loving someone fully feels like. So deep into it that everything feels so joyful and light," I spoke dreamily.
"Yeah, and it feels like nothing could ever go wrong as long as that person's around. As long as you're around."
I moved closer to him and wrapped my arm around his waist.
Because I knew this song so well, I could tell the big moment was coming up, and that's when I wanted to kiss him.
"Close your eyes and just picture the most beautiful scene you can."
"I don't need to close my eyes for that, it's right here."
I felt my cheeks get hot. "I'm flattered, but trust me. It'll be worth it."
"Okay."
The notes swelled and the melody crescendoed until everything came together perfectly. I held my breath as I leaned forward and placed my lips against Harry's.
The music got quieter and he opened his eyes slowly and he just stared at me.
I was so shocked I couldn't even speak. I was certain he would be happy about this.
He looked at the ground and smiled. "Finally," he said, relieved. "At this rate I thought we'd never kiss."
"It was a long time coming," I agreed. "I wanted to back at The Leaky Cauldron."
"I wanted to kiss you when we were at the Burrow last year- when we were on the bench and you were worried I forgot you."
"For that long?"
"Every day since. I'm sorry, I'm gonna ask you this again. Will you be my girlfriend, now?"
"Yes," I said immediately.
He scooted closer to me and wrapped his arms around me in a hug. "I'm glad my first kiss was with you. I wouldn't want it any other way."
"I wish you were mine." He gave me a confused look. "That stupid date I went on with Oliver two years ago," I explained.
"Oh. Why didn't you two ever date beyond that?"
"I don't really know. I had a crush on him for a year and the date was pretty alright, it just... felt like I needed to hold out for someone else."
"I hope that someone was me..?"
I just stared at him and rolled my eyes slightly. "Do you want to go back up to the tower?"
"Only if I get to hold your hand the whole way there."
"Of course you can."
George got up from his seat and started walking up the stairs when he saw Harry and I walk through the portrait hole. I dashed over and got in front of him in the archway and Fred stood behind him.
"Hold up- you've been avoiding me."
He laughed. "I have not."
"You have, too," Fred said. "It's because of your boggart, isn't it?"
"It was embarrassing!"
"Why?"
"Because I didn't know that's what it was going to turn into."
"What did you think it would be instead?" Fred pried.
"George, you don't have to be ashamed. I'm one of your best friends, it's okay. I'm afraid of you dying too."
"Really?"
"Yes, really."
"When I thought you were dead that one time, my heart just burst. You were the first friend I made outside of my family and suddenly you were just gone."
"I came back."
"I know."
AN: You really only have to listen from 5:40-8:10 of the song. That's the part that matters in the story :) 7:30 is the moment they kiss.
