"BELOVED BY THE TWINS"
by: Dark Flame MasterRuka and Luca were identical twins who are college students. They had always been incredibly close, sharing everything from clothes, secrets, and even thoughts. Their bond was so deep that people often couldn’t tell them apart and many assumed they were the same person. But there was one person who could always tell the difference between them. Shin.
Shin had always been a quiet high school student. You could say that he is a loner but it's not like he chose to be that way. He didn’t have many friends and often found himself walking through his days feeling invisible wandering without a sense of direction. Life had been tough for Shin for as long as he could remember. Bullied at school and burdened by his mother’s piling hospital bills, he had nearly given up on the idea of ever finding true friends or any kind of support at all.
One afternoon, about a week before their rooftop encounter Shin had been visiting his mother at the hospital. She had been admitted for surgery and the financial burden was overwhelming. The stress of juggling school, dealing with the constant bullying, and watching the hospital bills pile up made every day feel like a losing battle. He didn’t know how much longer he could keep going.
As Shin walked through the hospital’s long sterile hallways he felt the weight of the world on his shoulders. The cold air, the distant beeping of machines, and the soft chatter of nurses only added to his growing sense of despair. His mind was so consumed with thoughts of his mother’s medical expenses and the relentless torment he endured at school that he didn’t notice someone coming around the corner.
He bumped right into the person in front of him.
“S..Sorry, I didn’t see you,” Shin muttered, flustered and embarrassed.
Standing before him was a young man in scrubs holding a stack of medical files. The man’s calm demeanor contrasted with Shin’s anxious state. “It’s alright,” he said, his voice gentle. “Are you okay?”
Shin quickly nodded, his eyes downcast. “Yeah, I’m fine. Sorry again.”
Before the man could say more another voice echoed from down the hall. “Luca! Come on, we’ve got to check on the patient in room 204!”
Shin looked up to see another young man waving at the one he had bumped into. They were identical twins. It was then that Shin realized these were the twins he had seen before. Though he had never spoken to them. Something inside him immediately recognized which was which.
The calm one he had bumped into was Luca and the one calling out had to be Ruka.
Luca gave Shin a small, understanding nod. “Be careful next time,” he said before turning and walking away with Ruka.
Shin watched them go, feeling a strange pull toward them. For the first time in a long while someone had seen him. Someone really saw him. But even that brief moment of connection couldn’t lift the crushing weight that hung over him.
A week has passed and on a certain evening, after their shift at the hospital Ruka was still buzzing with energy. As interns in their fourth year of college the twins were constantly on the move. But even after a long day Ruka was always filled with boundless excitement.
“Luca, let’s go to the rooftop!” Ruka suddenly exclaimed as they walked through the hospital’s quiet halls, stretching his arms.
Luca, much more reserved and tired, sighed softly. “The rooftop? Can’t we just go home and relax? We’ve been on our feet all day.”
But before Luca could finish his sentence, Ruka jumped onto his back playfully wrapping his arms around Luca’s neck. “Come on!” Ruka said with a wide grin, leaning in so close that his face was just inches from Luca’s. “The fresh air will do us good, trust me.”
Luca blushed. He glanced around nervously, his voice low. “Stop it… someone could see us.”
Ruka laughed but didn’t move away. “So what? You’re always so serious!”
With a defeated sigh, Luca nodded. “Fine. Let’s go.”
Ruka hopped off Luca’s back and led the way toward the rooftop practically bouncing with energy. Luca followed behind still feeling a bit embarrassed but knowing that this was just Ruka’s way of keeping things light.
Once they reached the rooftop, the cool night air hit them refreshing after the stale hospital air. Ruka immediately spread his arms wide taking in a deep breath.
“See? This is exactly what we needed!” he said as if the world had been waiting for this moment.
Luca leaned against the wall with his arms crossed. His mind was already wandering to thoughts of home. “Yeah, it’s nice,” he muttered, still a bit wary of Ruka’s playful antics.
But something caught Ruka’s eye, and his expression quickly changed. His eyes narrowed as he spotted someone at the far end of the rooftop dangerously close to the edge.
“Luca… look,” Ruka whispered, his voice filled with concern.
Luca followed his brother’s gaze and immediately recognized the figure standing on the edge. It was the same boy they had seen last week.
“What’s he doing?” Luca whispered, his heart sinking.
Without a word, Ruka sprinted forward. His footsteps are echoing on the rooftop as his face grew pale with alarm. “Hey! Stop! Don’t do it!” Ruka shouted, his voice filled with urgency.
Luca hurried after him, his pulse racing. As they neared Shin, the boy stood frozen, staring down at the ground far below. He was lost in his own despair, completely unaware of the world around him.
Ruka’s footsteps slowed as he approached Shin, his breath coming in short gasps. His voice softened and filled with compassion. “Please… don’t do it.”
But Shin didn’t respond. He stood there feeling like a ghost as if he didn’t even exist. No one had ever cared about him. Not his classmates, not his teachers, and none of their relatives. All the bullying, the financial stress of his mother’s hospital bills, the isolation it had built up inside him until it felt like there was nothing left.
“No one cares,” Shin muttered under his breath, tears streaming down his face. He felt so small and invisible. It was as though he had already disappeared from the world.
Ruka’s heart ached for him, and he realized in that moment that Shin was like the. Shin was invisible in his own way. While Ruka and Luca had always been treated as one person, never seen as individuals, Shin had been treated like he didn’t exist at all.
Ruka took a careful step closer, his voice growing firmer with determination. “We see you, We care.”
Luca nodded, his voice steady. “You’re not alone.”
Shin’s shoulders shook, but he still didn’t move. “It doesn’t matter,” he whispered. “No one sees me. No one cares.”
Ruka, filled with urgency, took one final step forward and shouted with all his heart, “Please… don’t do it!
