CHAPTER 4

"BELOVED BY THE TWINS"

After they finished eating, Ruka and Luca stood up and casually mentioned that they were going to take a bath. Shin watched as both of them headed toward the bathroom at the same time which caught him off guard. His eyebrows raised in surprise and for a moment he was confused.

"They’re going in together?" Shin thought to himself feeling a little awkward. It wasn’t every day that he saw siblings being this close. But he quickly brushed it off trying not to overthink it. "Maybe it’s normal for them to shower together," he said to himself though deep down it felt a little strange.

He stayed in the kitchen trying to keep himself occupied. He began clearing the table and picking up the plates and glasses they had used for breakfast. It was something he wanted to do. It was his way of taking his mind off everything that had happened. His thoughts were a mess of his mom's hospital bills, the bullying at school, and now living in this house with two people he barely knew. He hadn’t quite processed it all yet.

After a while, Shin heard the sound of the bathroom door opening. He looked up and his eyes widened in shock. Ruka and Luca stepped out of the bathroom both of them with towels wrapped around their waists and some water was still dripping from their hair and skin. They weren’t wearing any shirts and their well-built bodies were on full display. Shin couldn’t help but stare for a moment. The twins were tall and undeniably attractive.

"Wow… I didn’t realize they were in such good shape," Shin thought. He quickly looked away, embarrassed that he had been staring. But before he could gather his thoughts Ruka noticed him.

"Luca, hide me! There’s a pervert staring at me!" Ruka joked, moving to hide behind Luca’s back in an exaggerated manner.

Shin felt his face heat up in embarrassment. "I..I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to stare!" he said trying to hide the fact that he found the whole situation amusing. He let out a soft chuckle making him unable to keep a straight face.

Before Luca could respond, Ruka's sudden movement caused Luca’s towel to slip. It fell to the floor leaving Luca standing there completely exposed. His expression instantly darkened and without missing a beat he reached out and smacked Ruka on the head.

"Stop playing!" Luca snapped, bending down to pick up his towel and rewrap it around his waist.

Ruka rubbed the back of his head pouting dramatically. "It was an accident! I didn't mean to. Don't hate me." he said, but there was a mischievous glint in his eyes that suggested otherwise.

Shin couldn’t help but laugh. For the first time in what felt like forever he was genuinely laughing. It felt strange but also refreshing. Despite the chaotic events of the past 24 hours, these two brothers had managed to bring a little bit of light into his life.

He chuckled softly and then he laughed a little harder watching as Ruka and Luca bickered like children. "I can’t believe these two are already 22," he thought. "They act like they’re still kids"

"Hey, Shin!" Ruka called out breaking Shin’s train of thought. "Stop staring and go take a bath already! We’re going to be late!"

Shin stood up from his seat and nodded. "O..okay, I’ll go now," he replied. He was about to head to the bathroom when Ruka called out again.

"Shin!" Ruka grinned, leaning against the wall. "You want to look a little more before you go?"

Shin felt his face flush but he couldn’t help but laugh at Ruka’s teasing. "I think I’ve seen enough," he said, shaking his head as he made his way toward the bathroom.

As he entered the bathroom he could hear Ruka’s voice from the hallway. "Lucaaaaaa, where’s my uniform?" Ruka complained.

Shin laughed again feeling oddly comfortable around them. Even though he had just met them it felt like he had known them for a long time. Their playful banter and sibling dynamic made him feel like he was part of something even if just for a moment.

After he finished his shower, Shin wrapped himself in a towel and headed back to his room. He changed into the clean clothes the twins had given him and stepped out to find them getting ready. Both Ruka and Luca were dressed in their hospital uniforms still playfully arguing about something simple.

"Shin, hurry up! We’re going to the hospital," Ruka called out.

"Yeah, we’ll be late if you take any longer," Luca added, his tone much calmer than Ruka’s but still with a hint of urgency.

Shin quickly grabbed his things and followed them downstairs. They made their way to the car parked outside. It was a sleek, black sedan that looked far too expensive for a couple of college students.

Shin hesitated as he approached the car feeling a little out of place. "I didn’t expect them to have a car like this," he thought. "They must be doing pretty well for themselves. I mean their house is also big"

"Come on, Shin! Get in!" Ruka called from the driver’s seat.

Shin snapped out of his thoughts and climbed into the backseat. As they drove to the hospital he found himself staring out the window lost in thought. The twins' easygoing nature and their constant teasing were making it hard for him to remember just how dark his thoughts had been the night before. He still felt the weight of everything his mom, the bullying but somehow things didn’t feel quite as hopeless anymore.

The drive to the hospital was filled with more playful banter between the twins. Shin found himself smiling and even laughing along with them. For the first time in a long while he felt like he belonged somewhere like he wasn’t just an invisible person drifting through life.

When they finally arrived at the hospital the familiar sterile smell hit Shin’s nose as they walked through the entrance. The same anxious feeling that he had whenever he visited his mom returned but it wasn’t as overwhelming as before. With Ruka and Luca by his side he felt a little stronger.

"Shin," Luca said, his voice soft as they reached the elevator. "We’ll visit your mom after our shift, okay? We’ve got work to do first."

Shin nodded. "Yeah… thanks," he said, feeling a little more at ease. He still had so many problems to face but at least for now he wasn’t facing them alone.
