"BELOVED BY THE TWINS"
by: Dark Flame MasterSHIN'S POV
"It's not normal right?" I said, my voice uncertain. I stared down at my lap while my thoughts are swirling around everything that had happened recently. Juri was the only person I could talk to about this stuff.
"Yeah, it's not normal," Juri agreed, her voice calm. "Unless they have someone else they're seeing… but that’s impossible. I know how much they care about you."
I sighed leaning back into the couch cushions. "Maybe they’re just messing with me," I mumbled.
Juri looked at me like I had just said the dumbest thing in the world. "No, how dense can you be cutie? It’s not like that okay?" Her voice was a mix of teasing and frustration.
"But—" I started, trying to come up with an excuse. I didn’t want to just accept things as they were without understanding the whole situation.
"No more 'buts,' cutie," Juri interrupted me, sitting up straight and crossing her arms. "Or I’m going to make you leave." Her tone was serious but there was still that playful edge to it, the kind that told me she wasn’t really mad. Still, I didn’t want to push her any further so I just nodded.
"Okay," I said quietly, lowering my head.
Then, out of nowhere Juri laid her head on my lap and for a moment, time seemed to stop. We looked at each other our eyes locked and the room went completely silent. I couldn’t hear anything except for the soft sound of our breathing. It felt like everything outside of this moment had faded away leaving just the two of us sitting there.
"Pfft... HAHAHAHAHAH!" we both suddenly burst out laughing. The tension from before completely disappeared as we laughed at how strange and awkward the situation had become.
"You know," I said, still chuckling a little, "maybe in another universe we would be a couple."
Juri raised an eyebrow at me, her expression half-amused, half-serious. "What are you saying, cutie? I don’t want to be like that with you." She shook her head, smiling softly. "Besides, I already have Ai even though we broke up. You also have the rude twins and I think they won't let that happen."
Hearing her mention her ex piqued my curiosity. I’d heard about Ai before but didn’t know much about their relationship. "Hey, Juri how can you still love her when you already broke up?" I asked, genuinely curious.
Juri sighed, her smile fading as she closed her eyes. "I don’t know," she said quietly. "But I just can’t live without her, you know? It’s like… all of this, the breakup and everything is just an obstacle we need to pass." Her voice was soft and a little sad like she was carrying the weight of that love with her even though it hurt.
"You’re really strong," I told her. I meant it. It took a lot of strength to hold on to someone even after a breakup and still believe that things could work out in the end.
"Am I really, though?" she replied, a hint of sarcasm in her voice. It was like she didn’t quite believe what I had said.
I decided to press further. "How did the of you meet each other?" I asked.
Juri opened her eyes and looked at me, a little smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. "Wait... why are we talking about my love life? Aren’t we supposed to be talking about yours?" she teased, trying to deflect the conversation back to me.
"What's there to talk about when I don’t even have one?" I said, shrugging. It wasn’t like I had a complicated love life like Juri did.
Juri sighed dramatically then leaned back against the couch. "Fine, I’ll share my story," she said, giving in.
"Okay," I said, settling in to listen.
"So once upon a time, there was a…" Juri started, her voice taking on a mock-serious tone like she was telling some fairy tale.
"Wait, why are you saying it like that?" I interrupted, laughing.
"I was just kidding," she said, rolling her eyes playfully. Then she closed her eyes again and got comfortable as she continued. "So, our school has a dorm and each room is meant for two people but I had been living alone in mine for a year. Then, one day they told me I’d be getting a roommate."
"So, is that Ai person your roommate?" I asked, piecing things together.
"Yeah," Juri confirmed. "But before we knew we were going to be roommates we actually met each other a week before. It’s cliche but it did actually happen. I was going to the convenience store to buy some food and it was nighttime."
"Wait," I said, unable to stop myself from laughing. "Did she mistook you for a kid?"
Juri sighed, clearly irritated but smiling all the same. "Yes, laugh all you want."
I couldn’t help it. "Really? HAHAHAHA!" I said, clutching my stomach as I laughed.
"Yeah, well she was the cashier. She was beautiful and tall so I didn’t realize she was also a high school student," Juri explained. "When I went to pay, she asked me if I was lost. But I showed her my ID and that’s how we first met."
"Who confessed first?" I asked, curious about how things had developed between them.
"It was her," Juri said, smiling a little at the memory. "Even though she’s tall and beautiful, she’s actually really shy. She’s cute, you know?"
"Shy? Really? I thought she’d be the loud, outgoing type," I said, surprised.
"Nope. She’s the complete opposite of what you’d expect just by looking at her," Juri explained.
"So, do you still meet with her?" I asked.
"Yeah, I actually went to see her yesterday," Juri said casually.
"YESTERDAY?!" I practically shouted, shocked.
"Yes," Juri said calmly, like it wasn’t a big deal.
"Is it normal to meet your ex that much? I thought you two were on bad terms," I said, trying to make sense of it.
"Wanna meet her?" Juri asked suddenly, catching me off guard. "We can go today."
"Huh? Me? What if she mistakes me for your boyfriend and you two end up fighting again?" I asked, feeling a little panicked at the thought.
"No, she already knows about you," Juri said with a smirk. "I talk about you all the time."
"Huh? Eh? Wh—" I stuttered, not sure how to respond. Before I could say anything else, Juri stood up and grabbed my arm pulling me off the couch.
"Let’s go," she said, grinning.
The next thing I knew we were walking down the street. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I couldn’t help feeling a little nervous. What if she didn’t like me?
