"BELOVED BY THE TWINS"
by: Dark Flame Master

A month had passed and things were different for Shin. No one bullied him anymore. The constant tension and fear of being hurt had disappeared. But that didn’t mean Shin was making friends. In fact, he preferred keeping his distance from his classmates. It was easier to be alone. He didn’t want to give anyone the chance to betray him or make him feel worse than he already had in the past.

His days are mostly quiet now. The only people he cared about were Luca and Ruka, the twins. They were his source of happiness and comfort and being around them gave him a sense of belonging. With them, he didn’t have to worry about fitting in or saying the right things. It was peaceful even if he wasn’t close to anyone else. Shin was just glad the bullying had stopped.

Today, as he sat in class his thoughts were elsewhere. He was planning to visit his mother after school, something he hadn’t done in a while. Maybe he could grab something to eat with the twins after. He smiled at the idea. He is not paying much attention to the chatter around him.

Suddenly, his homeroom teacher walked in and the room quieted down.

“Alright class settled down,” the teacher said, standing at the front of the room.

Everyone turned their attention to him.
Before starting the lesson the teacher announced, “We have a new student joining us today.”

At once, the students started whispering to each other.

“A new student? Isn’t it a bit late for that?” someone muttered.

“Do you think it’s a guy or a girl?” another student asked.

“I hope it’s a girl!” someone else replied eagerly.

But Shin wasn’t paying attention to any of it. His mind drifted back to his plans for the day, thinking about visiting his mom and spending time with the twins later. The buzz of excitement around him barely registered.

“Come on in and introduce yourself,” the teacher called toward the door.

The door opened and the new student walk inside. A girl with soft, grayish hair and delicate features stepped inside. She's smaller than most of her classmates making her look like an elementary student. Even with her glasses, she looked beautiful almost too perfect. The moment she walked into the room everyone stopped talking and just stared.

“Whoa, she’s really cute,” one student whispered.

“She looks like she came from another world,” someone else said.

“Is she even real?” another student asked in awe.

Juri, the new girl stood at the front of the room smiling nervously. She took a deep breath before speaking.

“Hi! Good morning everyone, I’m Juri,” she said in a soft voice, giving the class a polite but warm smile.

Her smile only made her more cute and the whole class seemed captivated by her presence.

The teacher looked around the room, searching for an empty seat. “Hmm, let’s see… There’s an open seat next to Shin,” he said, pointing to the desk beside Shin.

Everyone turned to look at Shin who hadn’t even noticed what was happening. The class seemed disappointed that the new girl wouldn’t be sitting near them but instead next to the quietest person in the room.

Juri walked over to the empty seat next to Shin, her smile still in place. She sat down glancing at Shin who continued to stare out the window lost in his thoughts.

“Hi, I hope we can be friends,” Juri said cheerfully.

Shin blinked and finally noticed her. “Huh? What? Who are you?” he mumbled, confused.

“I’m Juri,” she said again, not discouraged by his aloofness. She was determined to be friendly.

Shin nodded slightly and turned his attention back to the window clearly uninterested in talking to her.

As the day went on, Juri made several attempts to talk to Shin but each time he ignored her. During class, she would lean over and ask him questions or make small comments about the lesson but Shin just acted like she wasn’t there.

At one point, she even asked, “Do you like this subject?”

Shin didn’t answer only giving a half-hearted shrug.

Juri wasn’t the type to give up easily. During break time she tried again.
“So, do you have any favorite hobbies?” she asked, turning to face him with a smile.

Shin, once again didn’t bother responding. He stood up from his desk and walked out of the classroom without so much as a glance in her direction.

When he came back, Juri tried again. “Do you live nearby? Maybe we could walk home together after school,” she suggested still smiling though her persistence was starting to show.

Shin sighed finally looking at her properly. “You’re really short,” he said, completely changing the subject. It wasn’t meant to be an insult but it was blunt.

Juri blinked, momentarily taken aback but then she chuckled softly. “Tell me something I don’t know,” she replied with a playful roll of her eyes.

But Shin didn’t engage further. He turned back to his work effectively shutting down the conversation again. Juri frowned a little but wasn’t deterred. She had decided that she would befriend Shin no matter how difficult it was.

As the class continued, Juri’s determination only grew. She tried again during the next lesson whispering small comments and questions but Shin kept his responses short when he answered at all.

The final bell rang, signaling the end of the day. Shin immediately stood up grabbing his bag ready to leave. But before he could make it to the door, Juri called out to him again.

“Hey, wait!” she said, hurrying after him.

Shin ignored her and continued walking. He was eager to head home, visit his mom and meet up with Luca and Ruka.

“I said wait!” Juri repeated, running to catch up to him.

Shin stopped and turned around confused as to why she was following him. “What do you want?” he asked, clearly irritated.

Juri, slightly out of breath from chasing after him, pouted. “You could at least say goodbye,” she said, crossing her arms in mock frustration.

Shin raised an eyebrow. “Why?” he asked. “It’s not like we’re friends or anything.”

Juri’s eyes softened but she didn’t back down. “I’m trying to be friendly. Can’t you give me a chance?”

Shin sighed. “No. It’s better if you don’t talk to me,” he said bluntly, turning to leave again.

Juri stood there watching him walk away. She wasn’t hurt by his coldness but rather she felt even more curious about him. He was so distant, so closed off, and that made her want to figure him out even more.

She looked back at the other classmates hoping to get some sort of explanation or support from them but the moment she glanced their way, they all averted their gazes pretending not to notice what had just happened. They whispered to each other.

It was clear that they were talking about her but none of them had the courage to say anything to her face. But Juri wasn’t one to give up easily.
