**Chapter Four**

**Unknown POV**

My friends and I were sitting at our usual table, chatting and waiting for our food when a commotion broke out nearby. We had a clear view of the scene unfolding.

A girl was being dragged into the cafeteria by Shane and his boys. I recognized her—Claire’s twin sister, Hanna. Unlike Claire, who was popular and outgoing, Hanna was quiet and book-smart.

Claire ordered the boys to beat her up. They pounded on her like she was a wrestling bag, mercilessly beating her. She was bleeding from her nose and coughing up blood, but that didn’t stop them. They kept hitting her stomach and laughing.

They finally stopped when she couldn't stop coughing and started vomiting. Despite this, Claire yanked her up by her hair and whispered something to her. Shane watched the scene with a satisfied smile.

Shane was a bully who loved picking on girls with low self-esteem. I had a bad feeling when he started dating Hanna, and seeing him publicly humiliate her at his birthday party confirmed my suspicions.

The scene made me angry. I wasn’t the type to meddle in other people’s lives, but this was too much. I was about to intervene when a girl stood up and yelled.

"Stop this madness right now!" Her piercing voice caught everyone’s attention, and we all turned to look at her.

**Hanna’s POV**

Claire released her grip on my hair and turned to look at the girl who had spoken. The girl ignored everyone’s stares and walked toward me.

She was beautiful, standing about 5’4” with short black hair and cute, chubby features. She knelt down in front of me and took out a handkerchief, gently wiping the blood off my nose.

"Who are you?" I managed to ask without coughing up more blood.

"It's okay, I've got this," she smiled and handed me the handkerchief before standing up and turning to Claire.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" she demanded, looking at Claire with disgust.

"And who are you to question me, shorty?" Claire shot back, and her minions started laughing at the insult.

"Shane must have left someone incredible for a stupid whore like you. That doesn't give you the right to treat everyone like a slave," the girl retorted, shocking everyone. No one ever talked to Claire like that, especially now that she was Shane's girlfriend. He made a rule: "no one should touch my girlfriend", which ever one seems to abide by it.

"How dare you talk to her like that? Who the fuck are you?" Shane demanded, as Claire was too stunned to speak.

"Yaa (Hey), meong cheong han babo (stupid fool) , I wasn't talking to you. Wait for your turn," the girl said, undeterred, her loud voice caught Shane unawares as she turned back to Claire. "I give you until the end of this semester—Shane will dump you for another girl. But for now, enjoy your status. If anyone dares to touch Hanna again, I'll act on my own, and I mean it."

"Shane, what's wrong with you all? Beat up this chick right now!" Claire yelled, but no one moved.

"Leave her. It’s useless fighting with her," Shane said angrily but did nothing. Claire screamed and stormed out of the cafeteria. The girl helped me up, and we walked out together, heading straight to the school's clinic.

After my treatment, the girl came in with a bottle of water and snacks.

"I'm sorry about Shane. He's such a stupid fool," she said, handing me the water. I hesitated at first. "I’m not going to poison you. Drink up, you’re thirsty," she reassured me. I took the water and drank it all.

"Who are you? Why did you help me? And how were you able to stand up to Shane?" I asked, my voice clearer now.

"I'm Jenny. I'm not really new here. I tried talking to you before, but you were always busy, and I guess you didn’t want any elite as your friend. I can't blame you; they’re brutal sometimes. When you started dating Shane, I thought he genuinely liked you and was changing for the better. But seeing him dump you at his party was brutal, and I certainly don’t like your sister one bit," Jenny explained.

"I was a fool for dating him. What was I thinking? A rich, handsome boy in love with a poor, ugly nobody like me," I said, the pain still fresh.

"Hey, don’t say that. Shane is an idiot. I knew it when he tried to hit on me, knowing we were half-siblings," Jenny said, and I was shocked. "He didn’t tell anyone, and I prefer not being tagged as his sister," she added, seeing my confusion.

"It’s okay. I’m here for you now, and I won’t let those two babo (fools) ruin you. You’re amazing and very smart," Jenny said, making me smile.

"wait are you Korean?" I asked her knowing she mixes her words with language I don't understand.

"yep, took you long enough" Jenny said. "what did you tell Shane In the cafeteria?" I asked out of curiosity.

"Inquisitive aren't you, Meong cheong han babo, meong cheong han (stupid), babo (fool), so stupid fool," Jenny said breaking it down for better understanding."Wait all that word for just stupid, wow," I said and she smiled.

After school, I went home a bit late because I spent time with Jenny, my new friend. When I walked into the house, I saw my parents sitting on the couch with Claire between them. I was about to go to my room when my mom stopped me.

"Excuse me, young lady. You will explain what happened and why your sister has a bandage on her nose and a swollen face," Mom demanded. As expected, Claire had gotten home early to report to our parents.

"Why don’t you ask her? She shoved me first, threw my lunch away, and ordered her boys to beat me up in the cafeteria," I explained.

"Claire said you hit her first out of anger because the boy you like asked her out. Why do you have to be so immature? You should be protecting your sister from harm," Mom scolded me.

"Mom, look at me and look at Claire. I was brutally beaten today because of her," I said, pointing at my face.

"It’s a lie, Mom. My boyfriend got angry and ordered his boys to beat her. I pleaded for her because she’s my sister. I don’t know why she hates me," Claire said, on the verge of tears. Claire could cry on demand, and she was putting on quite a show.

"You're grounded for hitting your sister. It serves you right," Mom said. I walked to my room and slammed the door shut, hating my family even more.
