Chapter forty eight

  Hanna.

They all stayed with me till evening before leaving, honestly it felt good to be alive, to have people waiting and caring for you. I liked the mini talk between I and Dominic and he smiled at me, god my stomach did backflip,

Each time I spend with Dominic, I grow immensely attracted to him, like I really did not know what to do. I liked him and I can't deny that.

The next day, they all went to school of course, it was so boring staying alone in the hospital but I had to be there. The nurse walked into the room, with a tray of food in her hand, rice and chicken stew.

She placed the tray in front of me. She then began removing all the needles from my hands, took all of the  empty drip bag away. "Good morning Hanna, how are you feeling?" she smiled at me. "Morning and I'm feeling quite better than yesterday." I said with a smile.

"That's a relief. Why don't you eat your food and I'll bring in your drugs later." she said and I nodded, she handed me a spoon, I took it from her and began eating, the food was surprisingly good. The nurse smiled and walked away.

After eating, I took my drugs, and soon enough, I went to sleep. I didn't even realise that the doctor came in to check up on me. When I woke up, I saw a bunch of letters on the desk beside my bed so I decided to read them.

They were letters from kids in school, wow they really missed me and my team mates, Lauren, Rachel, Maggie, they sent dozens of letters and even flowers. The doctor walked in again. "are you awake?" he asked and I nodded. "Well I ran another test while you were asleep, everything is clear, you're okay, I've already written down the drugs you're going to take, morning and night." The doctor said handling me the paper.

My body flinched seeing the list of drugs, I hated taking medication, ahhh. "Don't worry, some of them are liquid so you should have no problems taking it." he said noticing my distress.

"In about two days time, you should be discharged from the hospital but, you can't go to school or do anything strenuous, you're still very weak, you need plenty of rest, sleep, try eating well and also veggies and fruits, you'll be fine." The doctor said and I nodded.

"Would you like me to call your mother to pick you up when you get discharged?" the doctor said and my eyes widen. "No please, my friends will be there." I said, I did not know how to face my mother or my sister, knowing she's the cause of this.

"You don't seem close to her, she didn't come to check up on you." the doctor said, I knew she would not come, such a mother. "yeah, we're not that close and honestly I don't care if she likes me or not, I just want to be happy." I said with a smile.

"Good choice then, I'll leave you to rest," he said. "thank you doctor." I said and he smiled before walking out.

After the doctor left, I glanced at the letters scattered across my bedside table, smiling as I read each one. The words were filled with warmth, encouragement, and little jokes that made me chuckle. It was comforting to know my friends cared so much.

Later in the evening, there was a knock on the door, and I perked up, feeling a surge of excitement. The door opened, and in walked Dominic, Kai, and Jenny. They all had bright smiles, and Kai held a balloon while Jenny had a small box, probably filled with treats or some kind of get-well-soon gift.

"Hey, look who's awake!" Kai grinned, waving the balloon before tying it to the bedpost.

Jenny came over, setting the box on the table beside me. "How are you feeling, Hanna?" she asked softly, her gaze warm and concerned.

"I'm better, honestly," I replied. "Just bored out of my mind in here."

Dominic stepped closer, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. "You’ll be out soon, right?"

"Yeah, the doctor said in about two days," I nodded. "But he also gave me this list of meds." I handed the paper to Jenny, who looked it over and winced.

"Yikes, that's a lot," she murmured sympathetically.

"And apparently, I have to rest even after I’m out—no school, no big activities. Basically, I’m supposed to be a potato." I rolled my eyes with a laugh.

Kai chuckled. "Hey, that doesn't sound so bad. We’ll just come over and keep you company. Besides, we need you back to full strength so you can crush us in team events again."

Dominic's gaze lingered on me, and I felt my stomach do that familiar flip. "Just make sure you follow the instructions, Hanna. We all want you back, but only when you’re ready."

I smiled, warmth filling my chest. "Thanks, guys. Seriously."

As they stayed and we talked, sharing stories from school and filling me in on everything I’d missed, I felt more grateful than ever. With friends like these, recovery didn't feel so hard.
