Chapter Fifty-Three

I took a sip of the smoothie, and my face lit up. “Oh my god, this is amazing! Your mom is an incredible chef,” I said, savoring the taste. Dominic smiled, quietly watching me as I ate my macarons.

When I finished, I looked up at him with a content smile. Everything tasted fantastic. Dominic leaned in closer, and my breath caught—what was he doing? I felt his hand gently brush my lips, wiping away crumbs. The touch made my heart race, and I felt warmth spreading to my cheeks as I looked into his handsome face.

He sat back, giving me a casual smile. “You’re so carefree,” he said, and I blinked in surprise.

“Oh, um…yeah, I guess,” I stammered, realizing I was babbling. Who could blame me? This guy was too attractive for my sanity.

“Shall we continue?” he asked, and I nodded, my face still warm from our little moment.

After studying, it was time for me to head home. As usual, Dominic insisted on giving me a ride. When we got to the garage, he gestured at his vehicles. “Pick one,” he said, walking ahead of me.

I couldn’t help but stare at the shiny black motorbike in the corner. It looked sleek and powerful, and I was instantly drawn to it. I guess he noticed my fascination because he said, “Come on.”

He walked over to the bike, grabbing a helmet and placing it on his head, then handed another one to me. “Um…how do you put this on?” I asked, a bit embarrassed.

He stepped closer, and suddenly, we were only inches apart. He gently placed the helmet on my head, and as he adjusted the straps, I caught a whiff of his cologne. He was tall, handsome, had an athletic build, and smelled amazing—Dominic was the full package.

“All set,” he said, stepping back. He climbed onto the motorbike, and I cautiously got on behind him.

“Hold on tight,” he said. I awkwardly gripped the back of the seat, but as soon as he started the engine, we were off, and I nearly lost my balance.

As the bike picked up speed, I instinctively wrapped my arms around his waist, holding on for dear life. “Dominic, what are you doing?” I shouted over the wind, my voice shaking with a mix of fear and excitement. The bike was going so fast, and though the wind felt amazing, I was starting to feel a bit dizzy.

Finally, the bike slowed to a stop, and I realized we were already in front of my house. Dominic removed his helmet and helped me off. My head was still spinning, and I stumbled slightly, but he held me steady.

“Are you okay?” he asked, looking concerned.

“No, I’m not. I thought I was going to fall off—it was so fast!” I exclaimed.

He chuckled, a mischievous glint in his eyes. “I told you to hang on tight.”

He removed my helmet, and I looked up at him, still catching my breath. “Is this how you always ride?” I asked, still a bit shaken.

“I usually go faster,” he replied with a smirk. I just sighed.

“Well, it was…an experience. Thank you,” I said, smiling at him.

He nodded, then climbed back on his bike. Within seconds, he was gone, leaving me standing in front of my house, feeling a mix of exhilaration and nerves.

Sarah

I stormed into my mansion, seething with anger. I couldn’t believe it—Dominic was spending time with her, choosing her over me. Hanna wasn’t nearly as pretty or as wealthy as I was, so why would he even look her way? I’d asked myself this question a million times, and each time, the answer only fueled my rage.

My mom approached me as I walked inside. “Honey, how are you?” she asked with a bright smile.

“I’m not fine, Mother. I’m far from fine!” I snapped, brushing past her and flopping onto the sofa. One of our maids approached timidly.

“Get me a smoothie to calm my nerves, and tell Grace to come and massage my feet,” I ordered, barely glancing at the maid, who scurried off, looking frightened.

“Sarah, what’s the matter? You know I’m here for you, and I always have a solution,” my mom said, her voice soothing.

I let out a frustrated sigh. “Then why isn’t Dominic my boyfriend yet? You promised me you’d talk to Samantha about getting him to notice me,” I said, clenching my fists. Whenever I didn’t get what I wanted, I couldn’t control my emotions.

“Honey, calm down. Samantha is cooperative, but Dominic isn’t easy to influence. I know how much you want him, but there are other rich guys you could pursue,” my mom suggested, trying to placate me.

“I don’t want anyone else, Mom! Dominic is the only one who meets my standards,” I replied sharply. We’d known each other since kindergarten, and I’d been infatuated with him for as long as I could remember. I’d done everything to get closer to him, even pretending to be just friends, but he’d never given me more than that.

And now, out of nowhere, some girl had come along, and he was falling for her. What did he even see in her?

“He’s spending time with someone else, Mom, and it’s driving me insane,” I said through gritted teeth.

“Is it Hanna?” she asked carefully.

“I don’t want to hear that name!” I snapped. “I won’t let her take what’s mine.”

My mom placed a comforting hand on my shoulder. “Listen, I’ll figure something out. But in the meantime, you need to relax. I hate seeing you upset like this.”

She reached into her pocket, pulling out a shiny card. “Why don’t you take your friends shopping? You always feel better after a good shopping spree.”

The sight of the card brought a smile to my face. Mom always knew how to make me feel better. “Thanks, Mom. You’re the best,” I said, getting up from the sofa and taking the card.

“Grace, get a nice outfit ready for me,” I called as I ran up to my room.
