Chapter Sixty
Dominic
Hanna had already drifted off to sleep, her breathing soft and even. "Mr. Adam, can you please stop in front of her house?" I asked quietly, not wanting to disturb her.
"Very well," Mr. Adam replied, nodding.
We soon arrived at her house. Carefully, I slid out of the car, cradling her in my arms, making sure not to jostle her awake. I walked to the front door, knocking softly. A woman opened it—probably her mother.
"How may I...?" She paused as her eyes fell on Hanna in my arms, a look of concern crossing her face. "Is she okay?" she asked.
"Good evening, Mrs. Smith," I replied politely. "She’s fine, just fell asleep. Could you show me her room?"
"Oh..." She seemed a bit surprised but quickly composed herself, stepping aside to let me in. "It's up the stairs, first room on the right." She gestured as she spoke, leading the way. I slipped off my shoes and followed her up the stairs, careful not to make any noise. She opened the door to Hanna’s room, making it easy for me to carry her in without having to fumble around.
Her room was neat and organized, with a soft warmth to it that suited her perfectly. Gently, I placed her on the bed, taking off her shoes and socks so she’d be more comfortable. I pulled the duvet over her, tucking her in carefully.
Just then, her eyes opened slightly, a drowsy smile tugging at her lips. "Dominic," she murmured, her voice soft and sleepy.
I reached over and tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear, brushing my fingers lightly over her cheek. She closed her eyes again, a peaceful smile lingering on her face. "It’s alright," I whispered, "I’m leaving now. Go back to sleep."
"Bye then," she murmured, barely audible as she drifted off again.
I turned around, noticing Mrs. Smith standing quietly in the doorway. She gave me a polite nod as I passed her and went back down the stairs. I slipped my shoes back on and stepped out of the house, heading towards the car.
Mr. Adam glanced at me with a knowing smile as I climbed in. "Congratulations, Dominic," he said. "It’s your first love."
I couldn’t help but smile back, feeling a warmth spread through me as he stepped on the accelerator, taking us back home.

The days leading up to prom were intense. With all the preparations and last-minute plans, Hanna and I barely had a moment to catch up. But finally, Thursday arrived—just two days before prom—and we had a free evening to spend together. We all decided to meet up at the school’s cafeteria to relax and catch up.
Kai and I got there early, waiting for the girls to arrive. Jenny’s voice rang out behind us, "Hi guys!"
We turned, and Kai’s face lit up as he saw her. He stood up, scooping her into a hug and spinning her around, making her laugh.
"Hi," Hanna said, smiling as she walked over to me.
"Hi," I replied, smiling back. It was strange—we still weren’t very good at showing affection publicly, but just having her beside me felt right.
She sat down beside me while Jenny and Kai took the seats opposite us. I handed her an ice-cold cream soda I’d picked up on my way in.
"Here," I said, passing it to her.
She took it, her eyes lighting up as she took a sip. "Oh my god, this tastes amazing! Thank you," she said, sighing in satisfaction.
"Well, you’ve been working hard," I replied, smiling.
"Tell me about it," she muttered, taking another sip.
Jenny clapped her hands excitedly. "I can’t believe prom is just two days away! I’ve been waiting for this moment my whole life!"
Kai chuckled, looking at her with a grin. "I can’t wait to see how stunning you’ll look, Jenny. My eyes will be on you the entire night."
Jenny blushed, but she grinned back at him. They were so comfortable showing their affection openly—it amazed me how easy it seemed for them.
"Don’t worry," Jenny said confidently. "Hanna and I are going to steal the spotlight at prom."
Hanna, who had been busy sipping her soda, looked up, surprised. "Wait, I am?" she asked, clearly caught off guard.
Jenny rolled her eyes playfully. "Of course, Hanna! I’ve already picked out our styles and colors. We’re going dress shopping tomorrow!"
Hanna sighed, giving Jenny a playful look. "Why do I have to come, though? You’re the fashion expert."
"Obviously, I need you there for your size," Jenny replied, undeterred. "You’re coming, no buts!"
Hanna groaned, but a small smile played on her lips. I could tell she enjoyed Jenny’s enthusiasm, even if shopping wasn’t really her thing.
We spent the next hour chatting and laughing, talking about everything from the latest prom rumors to the crazy things that had happened during preparations. Time seemed to fly by, and soon the cafeteria was starting to empty out.
As everyone started to stand up, I reached over, gently taking Hanna’s hand. "Hey," I said softly, "Can I talk to you for a second?"
She looked at me curiously, nodding as I led her a bit away from the others. From my pocket, I pulled out a small velvet box. "I wanted to give you something," I said, opening it to reveal a delicate set—a gold necklace, earrings, and a bracelet.
Her eyes widened in surprise. "Dominic, this is beautiful," she whispered, clearly touched.
"Hanna will you go to prom with me?," I asked, smiling at her.
She looked up at me, her eyes shimmering with gratitude. "Yes." she said without any seconds, she leaned in and wrapped her arms around me, hugging me tightly. I hugged her back, feeling a mix of emotions I couldn’t quite explain. She pulled back slightly, meeting my gaze.
"Thank you, Dominic. This means a lot to me," she said softly.
I smiled and, on a sudden impulse, leaned down, pressing a light kiss on her forehead. "I’ll see you tomorrow," I murmured.
With a shy smile, she nodded. We walked back to the others, both of us feeling a little different, a little closer. Prom was just around the corner, but in that moment, nothing else seemed to matter.
