Chapter Thirty-Eight

Sarah

I can’t believe Dominic is now hanging out with her. Why Hanna, of all people? How could he bring himself so low as to stoop to her broke-ass level? After everything I’ve done to keep our relationship intact, all my hard work, and now *this*? Hanna thinks she can just waltz in and destroy everything? Well, she's wrong. If she wants a war, I'll give her one. I’m going to ruin her life.

Walking into school was like entering my kingdom. One of the perks of being a rich and popular student. “Sarah, let me carry your bag.” “Sarah, you look stunning!” “Sarah, you're an absolute goddess!” “You’re practically a queen!” It’s always the same—praise upon praise. The admiration was almost routine at this point, but it still gave me a little thrill. Everyone knew their place around me. Even the teachers. As I strutted through the halls, my friend Chloe fell into step beside me, and we made our way to class.

“Hey, girls! Looking stunning today, as always,” Claire said as she approached us. She’s been doing everything she can to fit into our group. She’s got the charisma, I'll give her that, but it’s not enough to just have personality. No, being part of our group comes with a price, and I know exactly what that price is.

“Of course, I’m always stunning,” I replied with a sly smile.

Chloe chimed in, “Let’s sit.” We nodded in agreement, and the three of us took our usual spot center of attention, naturally. Moments later, some lower-tier girls approached with our favorite milkshakes, as if on cue. It was one of the perks of being at the top of the food chain. People will do anything to stay in your good graces.

“Claire,” Chloe said, a mischievous glint in her eye, “you’ve passed the test. You’re officially a Quin.”

Claire's face lit up. “Really? Oh my god, thank you guys so much!” she exclaimed, clearly thrilled at finally earning her place.

“Consider yourself lucky,” I added, sipping my drink, “You’re about to experience VIP treatment in everything. I even talked to my dad about getting you into one of my modeling gigs. Fame and fortune are practically handed to you when you’re with us.”

Claire beamed, clearly over the moon. “Wow. Finally, I’m worth something. I can’t wait to rub this in my sister’s face.”

The mention of her sister brought me right back to the problem at hand. “Speaking of which, Hanna’s really been a busy little bee lately, hasn’t she? But she’s getting on my last nerve,” I said, feeling my anger flare up again.

Chloe nodded knowingly. “I heard she and Dominic are hanging out a lot. They're partners for that stupid project, and he’s been tutoring her every day. Can you believe it?”

Each word she said about Dominic and Hanna was like a knife twisting in my chest. My hands clenched around my cup. How dare she try to steal Dominic away from me? Doesn’t she know who I am?

“I can’t stand this anymore,” I muttered, trying to control the rage bubbling inside me.

Chloe, ever the voice of calm in moments like this, leaned in closer. “Relax, Sarah. Claire here can handle it. After all, she’s Hanna’s sister. Who better to make her pay?”

“Yes, make her feel the pain I’m feeling,” I added, my voice laced with venom.

Claire smiled wickedly, clearly relishing the idea. “Oh, don’t worry. I’ve been dying to get her out of my life for years. And I know exactly how to do it.”

I raised an eyebrow. “Tell me, Claire. What’s this brilliant plan of yours?”

Claire leaned in conspiratorially. “Hanna is allergic to peanuts. It’s the only thing that really weakens her.”

Chloe wrinkled her nose in disgust. “Peanut allergies are no joke. They can cause horrible rashes, some of them permanent.”

A slow, wicked smile spread across my face. “Permanent rash all over her skin? I like that. She’ll be too ugly to even show her face at school. And Dominic? Forget it. He won’t want to be anywhere near her.”

The three of us burst out laughing, already imagining the sight of Hanna’s ruined appearance. Claire was turning out to be more useful than I’d anticipated.

“Oh, Claire,” I said, wiping away a tear from laughing too hard. “You’re more evil than I thought. I love it. Why don’t we celebrate by hitting the spa this afternoon? Then, we’ll stop by the boutique, and maybe finish the day at a party on my dad’s yacht.”

Chloe grinned. “Sounds like a perfect day. Are you in, Claire?”

“Absolutely. Count me in,” Claire replied eagerly.

I couldn’t help but smile to myself. A party on a yacht, a little bit of evil scheming—it was all just so me. Hanna wouldn’t know what hit her.

Just as I was lost in thoughts of our upcoming revenge, I spotted Dominic and Kai walking toward us. I stood up, excusing myself from the girls. This was the perfect chance to talk to Dominic alone.

“Dominic,” I said as I approached them, making sure to pout a little to seem vulnerable, “last night, you just left abruptly without even saying goodbye. I was hurt.”

Kai, always the sarcastic one, chimed in, “Oh, hello to you too, Sarah.”

I rolled my eyes. “Shut up, Kai. I’m here for Dominic, not you.”

Kai smirked. “Perfect. I would’ve cut my ears off just to stop listening to you.”

I shot him a glare before turning my attention back to Dominic. “Dom, stop Kai from talking to me like that,” I whined.

Dominic sighed. “Sarah, I just need to relax, okay?”

Relax? He was so boring sometimes. If it weren’t for his handsome face and physique, or the fact that we were meant to be the school’s power couple, I wouldn’t even bother with him.

“But why?” I asked, trying to keep the irritation out of my voice. “Sleeping is for losers. Anyway, I’m having a party on my dad’s yacht tonight. Just you and me.”

Dominic barely glanced at me. “I’m sorry, Sarah, but I can’t make it.”

I was stunned. “What? No way! It’s my dad’s birthday party. Even your family was invited.”

Kai, clearly enjoying the tension, chuckled. “Sarah, he said he doesn’t want to go. Save yourself the embarrassment and leave.”

I was about to lash out at Kai when a teacher entered the room. I held back, shooting one last glare in Kai’s direction. “We’ll talk later, Dominic,” I said before strutting back to my seat, fuming.

Kai was such an irritant, but I wasn’t going to let him get to me. Dominic would come around eventually, and by then, Hanna would be out of the picture.
