It was the middle of winter, and the bitter cold had finally gotten to Rin Itoshi. He had been sniffling for a few days, but true to his stubborn nature, he insisted he was fine. Of course, Isagi Yoichi, his ever-attentive boyfriend, wasn’t convinced. Not when Rin was clearly burning up, his cheeks flushed and his usually sharp eyes slightly droopy.

“Rin, you’ve been sneezing for hours,” Isagi said, frowning as he pulled a blanket tighter around his sick boyfriend. “You’re not fooling anyone.”

Rin, lying in their shared bed, sniffled again, wrapping himself up in the blanket even more. “I’m not a child, Yoichi. I can take care of myself.”

Isagi chuckled softly, kneeling by the bed and brushing a few strands of hair away from Rin’s forehead. “I know you’re not a kid, but that doesn’t mean you can’t let someone take care of you.”

Rin grumbled, his voice low and raspy. “I don’t need—achoo!” His sneeze interrupted his protest, and Isagi couldn’t help but laugh.

“Bless you,” Isagi teased, sitting on the edge of the bed. “Come on, Rin, just let me help. You don’t have to do everything on your own.”

Rin shot him a glare, but it didn’t have the usual sharpness. Instead, it was tired, vulnerable. “I hate being weak.”

“You’re not weak,” Isagi said gently, his tone serious as he leaned forward. “You’re just sick. And everyone gets sick sometimes, even you.”

Rin sighed, sinking deeper into the bed as if it could swallow him whole. “Fine,” he mumbled, his voice barely audible. “But don’t make a big deal out of it.”

Isagi smiled softly, standing up. “Deal. Now, I’m going to make you some soup, okay? Just stay here and rest.”

Rin closed his eyes, nodding slightly, though he didn’t say anything. Isagi quickly left the room, but not before glancing back to see Rin shivering under the blankets. His heart squeezed seeing Rin like that. The usually strong and stoic Rin looked so small, and Isagi was determined to make him feel better.

In the kitchen, Isagi busied himself making a simple chicken noodle soup. He wasn’t much of a cook, but for Rin, he’d try anything. As the soup simmered, Isagi thought about how much Rin did for him—how he pushed him to be better, how he supported him in everything, even if he wasn’t always great with words. Taking care of Rin, especially when he was sick, felt like a small way to repay all of that.

When the soup was ready, Isagi carried it carefully back to their room. Rin was still curled up in bed, eyes closed, but when Isagi approached, he stirred.

“Rin? I brought you some soup,” Isagi said softly, sitting beside him again.

Rin blinked sleepily, groaning a bit as he sat up. “Smells good,” he admitted grudgingly.

Isagi grinned, handing him the bowl. “Here, eat slowly. You need something in your stomach.”

Rin took the bowl, holding it with both hands as if it was the only thing keeping him warm. He took a small sip, then another. Isagi watched him closely, his heart swelling with a mixture of love and concern.

After a few more sips, Rin set the bowl down on the bedside table and leaned back, his head resting against the pillows. “Thanks,” he muttered, his voice quieter than usual.

“Of course,” Isagi said, moving closer to adjust the blanket again. He brushed his hand lightly across Rin’s forehead, relieved to find it cooler than before. “Do you feel a little better?”

Rin nodded, his eyes already fluttering closed. “A little.”

Isagi smiled, leaning down to press a soft kiss to Rin’s temple. “Good. Now, sleep. I’ll be right here.”

Rin’s hand reached out, weak but insistent, grabbing onto Isagi’s sleeve. “Stay with me,” he mumbled, his voice barely a whisper.

“I’m not going anywhere,” Isagi promised, lying down beside Rin and wrapping an arm around him gently. Rin shifted, resting his head on Isagi’s chest, and within minutes, he was fast asleep.

Isagi held him close, running his fingers through Rin’s hair soothingly. He knew Rin hated being vulnerable, hated showing weakness, but in moments like this, Isagi felt honored that Rin trusted him enough to let him see it. And in return, Isagi would do anything to keep Rin safe, warm, and loved.

As the snow fell softly outside their window, Isagi whispered, “I’ve got you, Rin. Always.”
