The sun was dipping low, casting golden hues over Blue Lock’s training field. Isagi Yoichi jogged toward the benches after another grueling set of drills. Sweat clung to his back, his chest rising and falling as he reached for a water bottle.
That’s when he saw Rin talking to someone by the far gate. Not just anyone—Sae Itoshi.
Isagi blinked. Sae? The Japan U-20 prodigy, the guy who’d once looked at him like he was dirt under his cleats, was here? Why?
Rin stood too close to him. Their posture wasn't confrontational—it was weirdly familiar. Isagi couldn’t hear their words, but Rin’s expression was softer than he’d ever seen. Almost vulnerable. Sae said something, and Rin actually chuckled. A small, rare thing that made Isagi’s stomach twist.
Jealousy? Confusion? Both?
Later, in the locker room, Isagi tried to brush it off. Don’t be weird. People talk. Doesn’t mean anything.
Rin walked in, towel slung over his neck. He looked… calm. Relaxed in a way Isagi hadn’t seen since Blue Lock started.
Isagi couldn't help it. “So, you and Sae. What was that about?”
Rin paused. A slow, quiet blink. “You saw that?”
“Yeah. Didn’t know you were… close.”
There was a beat.
Then Rin, completely unfazed, said, “He’s my brother.”
Isagi nearly dropped his water bottle.
“Wait—what?”
Rin rolled his eyes and leaned against the wall. “Yeah. Older brother. Sae Itoshi. You know, red hair, punchable face, arrogance the size of Japan.”
“No shit? You never mentioned that!”
“I didn’t think it was important.”
“Rin, he’s Sae Itoshi! That’s kind of—huge!”
“Isagi,” Rin said, voice flat, “do I look like I care what people think of my family?”
Isagi sat down on the bench, still processing. “So what were you two talking about?”
Rin looked away, jaw tight. “Nothing you need to worry about.”
“Oh come on. You looked like you were about to kiss him or something.”
The air in the room froze. Rin turned sharply, eyes narrowing.
“What the fuck did you just say?”
Isagi flinched. “I didn’t mean it like that! Just—it looked kinda intimate!”
“He’s my brother,” Rin growled. “I don’t even like him, most of the time.”
“Well, you didn’t look like you hated him earlier.”
“I didn’t punch him in the face today. That’s called progress.”
Isagi stared, then snorted.
“You’re serious, huh?”
Rin shot him a dry look. “Deadly.”
There was a moment of quiet. Then Isagi leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees.
“I guess I just… didn’t like seeing you with him.”
Rin tilted his head, studying him. “Why?”
Isagi didn’t answer right away. His heart was beating too fast, too loud.
“I like being the one you talk to. The one you… let in.”
Rin’s eyes widened just slightly.
Then he walked over, standing between Isagi’s knees. His voice dropped to a near-whisper.
“You are the one I let in.”
Isagi looked up, eyes searching Rin’s. “Really?”
“Yes, idiot.”
He leaned down, their foreheads touching. Isagi felt Rin’s breath against his lips.
“Only you,” Rin whispered.
Isagi’s hands found Rin’s waist instinctively, pulling him close. Rin sighed, a breathy sound that made Isagi’s heart lurch.
He pulled him in and kissed him—soft, slow, like he had all the time in the world to show him just how much he’d wanted this. Rin melted against him, hands sliding into Isagi’s damp hair, gripping just enough to make his knees weak.
Later, in the quiet of Isagi’s room, after dinner and a few more shy touches and bolder kisses, they lay in bed together. The world outside was silent, just the occasional rustle of leaves in the wind.
Rin was curled into Isagi’s chest, his face buried near his collarbone. Isagi’s fingers traced lazy circles on Rin’s back.
“This is nice,” Rin murmured.
“Mhm.”
“You were really jealous earlier,” he added with a smirk Isagi could hear, even if he couldn’t see it.
Isagi groaned. “Shut up.”
“I kinda liked it.”
Isagi pinched his side lightly. “You’re insufferable.”
Rin tilted his head up, eyes gleaming with that rare softness.
“And you’re mine.”
Isagi kissed his forehead, then his cheek. “Yeah,” he said quietly. “I am.”
They fell asleep like that, limbs tangled, heartbeats slowly syncing.
And in the morning, when Rin woke up first and watched Isagi’s sleeping face, he smiled to himself.
Maybe having someone like this—someone he could trust, who saw him and didn’t flinch—that was the real goal.
Not Blue Lock. Not being number one.
But this.
