YOU'RE NOT REAL
The film shows a Joyce Byers, about 10 years younger than she is now, entering a rather run-down Byers house, and that's saying a lot.
The walls are bare of paint and wallpaper, the furniture is worn out, dirty dishes piled up in a leaky sink.
She sadly and visibly defeated tries to turn on the light, but it doesn't work, the house no longer had electricity, and she glances angrily at the refrigerator, already guessing what happened to its contents.
She walks to the couch and lies down on it, when the phone starts ringing, she gets up, annoyed and tired, and answers the call.
The voice of a somewhat older man says to her -Hello, honey, is that you?- Joyce sighs and trying to calm her tone answers -Hello dad-
He says -It's good that you're there, it's maybe the third time I've tried to contact you- she just answers -I was outside...looking for work-
The father asks - well... did you get the check? - the daughter answers - yes, yes, hey, thank you very much, really, as soon as I can I will pay you back I promise -
He answers - come on, don't be silly... we know very well how bad you must be going through with that thing with "that one" and everything - Joyce, already visibly embarrassed, answers - yes, well... -
But she is interrupted by a new voice shouting from the phone - but I told you so... –
Joyce's expression slowly begins to change to a more somber and annoyed one upon hearing the voice, the man answers -Delia for god's sake, I'm trying...-
Although she had no way of knowing what was going on, but judging by the sounds, Delia snatched the phone from her and screamed into it, causing Joyce to move the phone away from her ear a little as she heard -I WARNED YOU THAT "GOOD FOR NOTHING" WOULD GIVE YOU A DOG'S LIFE, AND I WAS RIGHT, YOU SHOULD HAVE...-
But apparently the man took the phone away from her again and they argued a bit, until the stiletto heels were heard leaving the room.
Finally, the man says -sorry, that's why, she's really worried about you... in her own way- which makes his daughter roll her eyes.
After a few moments of awkward silence between them, she seemed ready to say goodbye, when Charles mentions -hey... look, we were talking about it and... maybe you should come visit us, our "guests" would love to see you again-
Light tears begin to appear in her eyes that suddenly shine with hope, but she quickly shakes her head, wiping away the tears and responding -no, I can't... the hearing with the judge is in just a month, I have too much to do-
He sighs, obviously tired, and answers -Look, honey... let's be honest, I was talking to my lawyer-
She asks, alarmed, -Why... why did you talk to him?- Charles answers -I talk to him a lot, that's what I pay him for, I don't know why you're surprised...- in a tone that showed he was trying to divert the subject.
He then continued -He said that it would greatly improve the chances if... if Delia and I asked for custody- letting the comment fall under its own weight.
Joyce stood frozen for a second and quickly her expression darkened even more and she answered -no, no... NO- while she began to stutter protests
Charles answers -we are not going to take them away from you... the three of them would live here, it would just be a bureaucratic process and that's it, just a couple of signatures and that's it-
She comments desperately and already crying and pulling her hair -you don't even have enough rooms...- but he answers -well we do more... Delia will surely love the idea of an expansion, we didn't have permission before, but surely if it's for your sons "they" won't mind-
