I sit in the leather chair awkwardly with my casted leg propped up on a pillow underneath the desk. It's my first day at work and so far, I'm holding myself from giving any comments.
Jennie dropped me off at work this morning and wished me good luck. She promised to pick me up for lunch, which - I pick my wrist up - and steal a glance. Two hours away.
Pathetic.
A series of knocks rings against the door. I mumble a soft, 'Yes, come in' and there she is, my secretary - standing at the door frame with her body divided into two halves. In and out.
She smiles at me before stepping inside fully. A file against her chest before she passes it to me.
"Your schedule for this week has been fixed and finalised,"
She trades a small smile. "Oh that's quick," I reply, totally in awe of her quickness. Jihyo grins back. Hands clasping at her front as I scan the schedule one by one.
Surprisingly, days ahead seem incredulously empty. Only one or two engagements per day.
I tilt my head to cast a glance at the woman who's going to steer my corporate role.
And she seems to get that memo quick and fast. Fantastic.
"Oh," she sounds thoughtful when she begins. Her usual light smile accompanies her explanation.
"As per discussion with your doctor, you need to be off your feet to ensure speedy recovery. This is why your calendar looks a little bit empty. But rest assured, minimised schedule will not affect your impact on the company,"
"I see,"
My chest rises with a new set of Oxygen. Then, I notice empty frames decorating the desk.
"Aren't these supposed to hold pictures?" I look up at Jihyo and she nods her head.
"Correct," her voice is soothing and I bet I can listen to it for hours.
"But they are empty for now," I say in a deadpan tone. Again, Jihyo nods her head with the same patience smile on her face.
"It's because I haven't received any frame worthy pictures from the Archive Department just yet," she explains.
Then, she takes a full one step ahead, finger tapping at the silver frame.
"Every time the executive level changes its chessmen, the AD would send me a few picks from their archives. Most of them are acquired from those in the family, or friends that know them. But I'm told to wait for your archive as the department is currently working on it,"
I nod my head again. At this point, I guess it's becoming my signature move.
"I'm having lunch with my sister," I tap the calendar at hand because that particular event is unrecorded.
