Ever since it was brought to Dean that Percy had been struggling with the bills, the Winchester had picked up a second job as a bartender in the nights. It wasn't the most glamorous job, and he had only two hours of free time between shifts at both jobs, and limited Percy time, and-
Damn, that sucked.
It hadn't occurred to Dean in the beginning that the bills would increase with two extra people in Percy's small apartment, and he'll forever feel ashamed about that. Of course the bills would increase. There were two extra people using the electricity, water, and other things that caused the bills to increase by at least half of what it was previously.
Percy hadn't said a word, however, and Dean figured the man was too nice to inform them of his struggles. No doubt, the demigod figured that Dean and Sam were struggling enough as it was that he should not bring more stress onto them. It was sweet of him, it really was, but Percy could be so dumb sometimes. Now, Dean would never tell him that- not when it came to the rent- but he very much thought it.
What Dean didn't expect was Percy finding out about his second job just four days after starting it.
The demigod hadn't done anything to tip Dean off that he knew- nothing obvious, at least- but the hunter could've sworn he felt his piercing eyes on him any time he entered a room. It was very creepy, which Dean figured was the point, and one of the few times it was him as the target and not Sam. His brother, in a weird turn of events, became even more paranoid because Percy hadn't messed with him in over a day which was concerning.
Hera had been informed as to what Dean was doing because the eldest Winchester figured she was the type that appreciated being kept in the loop. With the goddess' newly found texting abilities, she made sure to inform him that he was an idiot and ensuring his own death. She had made she to punctuate the message with a lot of gravestone and flower emojis. It was both glorious and hideous.
Percy struck on the fifth night in a way that Dean least expected.
He had shown up to the club with Annabeth, May, Hera, and Sam at some time around eleven at night. All of them were dressed up as though ready to party, though it was clear that Percy and Sam didn't make much of an attempt. While the girls had worn skirts and pretty tops, the boys had just thrown on something that was barely passable.
Sam had ditched the plaid, shockingly, and instead wore blue jeans and a tight black shirt with a dark jacket. It was one of the most simple of outfits, but he seemed comfortable in it and no one at the club seemed to be complaining at all. Percy had dressed similarly in an over-sized white shirt tucked into ripped black jeans, and he had made somewhat of an attempt at styling his hair. For as much as the demigod was trying to keep a low profile, it didn't work with the way his eyes, made brighter by the white shirt, seemed to draw people in.
"What are you doing here?" Dean questioned after taking his outfit, watching as the demigod sat in the stool across from him.
Percy tilted his head to where Hera had managed to convince Sam to dance, Annabeth sticking near them but placing her attention on a brunette swaying to the music. "They wanted to get out for a bit, and you've been avoiding me."
"I haven't been-"
"You have." He tapped the counter with a finger, his lips set in a deceptive smile. "So, I did some digging. Imagine my surprise when I found out that you got yourself a second job to help pay the rent."
Dean bristled slightly. "There's nothing wrong with having two jobs."
The other nodded, his smile disappearing into a neutral line, and he tilted his head. "You're right, but you haven't been sleeping. You chose another job to help pay the bills, but you picked up any hours you could." He reached forward and gently ran his thumb under Dean's eye before pulling away. "Winnie, you look so tired."
