XX. MY LABOUR IN THIS DOLLHOUSE
━━━━━━
"For somebody I thought was my saviour
You sure make me do a whole lot of labour"
"MARIE, STOP! I TOLD YOU not to run in the halls!" The boy called out, his voice filled with a mix of concern and playful admonishment. He quickened his pace, determined to catch up with his energetic younger sister.
The morning sun painted a golden hue across the grand corridors of Evermore Manor, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The air was alive with the gentle symphony of nature as birds sang and bees hummed, adding a touch of enchantment to the scene.
Marjorie, with her vibrant red hair dancing like flames, raced ahead with an infectious smile on her face. Her laughter echoed through the halls, lifting the spirits of all who heard it. At just four-years-old, she possessed a boundless energy and an insatiable thirst for life and thrill.
"Come and get me if you can!" Marjorie giggled, her voice brimming with excitement. She weaved effortlessly through the labyrinthine corridors, her small feet barely making a sound on the polished floors. Her giggles rang out like tinkling bells, filling the space with pure delight.
Perseus, her older brother at the age of fourteen, chased after her with a mix of concern and amusement. He understood her youthful exuberance and yearning for adventure, but he also knew the importance of safety within the manor.
"Marie, I mean it. Slow down!" Perseus called out, his voice a blend of caution and fondness. He quickened his steps, his determination evident in each stride. "Running in the halls is not allowed, you know? It's not safe!"
But Marjorie, caught up in the exhilaration of the chase, paid little heed to her brother's words. Her laughter echoed like a sweet melody, spurring her on to new heights of mischief. Her tiny feet carried her effortlessly through the elegant corridors, her bright eyes shining with mischief and joy. "Percy! Percy! Come catch me!"
As they navigated the maze of hallways, the sunlight streamed through stained glass windows, casting vibrant patterns on the walls. The magical interplay of light and shadow mirrored the spirited dance of the siblings as they weaved through the grandeur of their ancestral home.
"Dede!" Perseus called out and a faint sound of a crack came from behind him, but he paid no mind to that as he continued his chase. His little sister had always been quite a handful, he just couldn't believe that she had to be a handful right now out of all days.
