XXVI. A TRAINWRECK OF A SEASON
━━━━━━
"I know I'm just a
Wrinkle in your new life"
THIS WAS THE FIRST WINTER since a long one in which Marjorie somewhat felt whole and did not feel all that scared.
It was funny, really, now that she thought about it. When she first arrived her, she had doubted that she would ever find belonging here, especially in a place with people that clearly did not want her around. But things somewhat took a turn for the better, she guessed; Sirius was rather hospitable, though she reckon it was only because he saw himself in her. But it was nonetheless enjoyable seeing him argue with Mrs. Weasley and Anya over something ridiculous, though it was all in good nature.
Everything seemed to be in good nature in general. The Weasleys, Hermione, and unsurprisingly Harry had been great companions since she had left Evermore Manor. They made her feel comfortable and Hermione, Ron, and Harry ensured that she was completely up to date regarding all things Order that they knew of. It was somewhat interesting to hear how they were constantly in motion, working under the Ministry's noses. But what was more interesting was her relationship with her brother.
Admittedly, it was awkward at first, of course. But over time, the tension between them began to thaw, much like the snow outside Grimmauld Place. Their conversations were halting at first, filled with tentative steps around old scars. But gradually, they found a rhythm. Perseus was really determined to make amends, to be the brother he had 'failed' to be. And Marjorie, despite her initial reservations, found herself opening up to him in ways she hadn't expected.
It was in the small moments that she began to notice the changes. The way Perseus would seek her out after dinner, asking about her day or offering to help with something trivial. The way he would try and make excuses to hang around her more if he wasn't on a mission for the Order, as if silently promising that he wouldn't leave her side again. And the way he'd watch her, a mix of concern and something like regret in his eyes, as if he was trying to make up for lost time, of course with the additional assistance of Anya, who Marjorie was starting to find company in and getting to know more.
Honestly, Perseus's determination annoyed her.
...well, it would have annoyed her if she was the Marjorie of the past. But currently, the present Marjorie couldn't find it in herself to feel all that annoyed anymore. Instead, she found herself feeling... grateful. It was a strange feeling, one she wasn't entirely comfortable with, but it was there nonetheless, quietly settling in the corners of her heart where anger and resentment used to reside.
