XXII. MARJORIE OPHELIA EVERMORE
━━━━━━
"That place and its patrons
Have taken more than I gave 'em"
THIS WAS CERTAINLY NOT MARJORIE'S idea of a winter break — truthfully, this wouldn't be anyone's idea of a successful winter break. This would be a nightmare to anyone, yet this was her reality.
The bitter wind cut ruthlessly through Marjorie's tattered clothes, sending shivers down her spine as she stood tiredly, without even an ounce of sense in the middle of the snow-covered streets of Diagon Alley, all the while glimmering and bright decorations filled her surroundings so mockingly. Her breath came out in white puffs, visible evidence of the cold that enveloped her. The once bustling and vibrant wizarding marketplace now appeared deserted and forlorn, mirroring the emptiness she felt inside.
She looked down at her still trembling hands. Had that actually just happened? Had she truly knocked her father out? Had she really left Perseus to fend off their father by himself?
Do you really believe that you could do anything even if you were there?
No... but it would give him a chance —
What chance exactly? You're better off out of his way for once.
Perhaps... but it didn't erase the unwanted guilt she felt coursing through her veins for hitting her father... someone who was supposed to be her protector.
Her body ached from the aftermath of the confrontation with her father, the bruises were memoir of what she had just endured. Blood stains marked her face and her gown that once belonged to her mother, making her appearance even more disheveled and vulnerable. Her wand had been left behind in her hasty escape from Evermore Manor. She felt defenseless and exposed, as if the world had stripped away everything she held dear. And the worse feeling?
She still felt guilty.
It was annoying that she felt guilty over something she shouldn't to begin with. He deserved every bit of the pain she had inflicted on him, and she knew that. She had always fantasise him getting what he deserved. But to be the one to send that... Marjorie wanted to cry.
She didn't know what to do.
She had never felt so lost.
Tears welled up in her eyes as she took in her surroundings. Fear and uncertainty gnawed at her heart, threatening to overwhelm her. She had always been great at masking her emotions, burying them deep within herself. After all, that had been her form of survival for years now. However, now, they were surging forth with a force she couldn't contain. She felt disoriented, as if every step she could take would lead to her fall.
