LXXV. HIDE AND THEY SEEK

━━━━━━

"This is the start of how it all ever ends

They used to shout my name, now they whisper it"

EVERYTHING SEEMED FUZZY AND SLOW. Marjorie and Percy immediately drew their wands. Many people were only just realizing that something strange had happened; heads were still turning toward the silver cat as it vanished. Silence spread outward in cold ripples from the place where the Patronus had landed. A cold silence settled over the scene momentarily, broken suddenly by a piercing scream that shattered the stillness.

Panic spread like wildfire. Guests dashed in every direction, some Disapparating in frantic haste. The protective enchantments around the Burrow had been broken.

"Go and find the others and get to safety!" Percy's urgent voice pierced through the chaotic scene, barely giving Marjorie a moment to react before he disappeared into the panicked crowd. Adrenaline surged through her veins as she scanned the marquee, guests now thrashing about, bumping into each other in their frantic attempts to flee.

Suddenly, a loud bang echoed through the air, causing everyone to freeze for a split second. Panic escalated further as people screamed and scrambled in all directions —

"MARGIE!"

The shout cut through the tumult, and Marjorie spun around to see Ron pushing his way forcefully through the crowd towards her. Relief flooded her at the sight of him, though worry etched lines on his face.

"Where's Harry? Hermione?" Marjorie asked urgently, grasping Ron's hand tightly.

"Dunno!" Ron replied tersely, his voice barely audible over the chaos surrounding them.

Without another word, they locked eyes and nodded in unspoken agreement. They had to find Harry and Hermione. Together, they plunged into the maelstrom of panicked guests, pushing against the tide. The marquee seemed to shrink around them, the once festive atmosphere now transformed into a battleground of confusion and fear. Marjorie's senses heightened, every nerve on edge as she scanned faces, searching desperately for a familiar pair of glasses or a bushy head of hair.

"Hermione!" Ron yelled through the screams, "Hermione!"

Their path towards Harry and Hermione was abruptly interrupted as cloaked and masked figures materialized amidst the panicked crowd. Marjorie's heart leaped into her throat as she spotted Lupin and Tonks, their wands raised defensively, shouting, "Protego!" The protective charm echoed around them, a shield against the streaks of light that zipped through the air, their origin and intent unclear in the chaos.
