LXXIV. TILL DEATH DO WE PART

━━━━━━

"No grave can hold my body down

I'll crawl home to her"

WEDDINGS WERE A TOPIC IN which Marjorie wasn't exactly sure how to feel. In general, it was a day — an event in which they were to celebrate the union of two souls. In the hearts of many, it would be a beautiful day. Yet, for Marjorie, her feelings were more complex; she had never held a particularly positive view of marriage.

To her, marriage seemed constricting. Perhaps it was the idea of committing one's entire life solely to another person. Perhaps it was her own brush with almost getting engaged — a situation dictated more by others' expectations than by genuine connection. That experience had coloured her perception significantly.

Though, she also couldn't say that she believed marriage to be inherently bad. She'd witnessed marriages that exemplified deep commitment and love, like Percy and Anya's. Their relationship, while not without its complexities, showed a passionate devotion that admittedly moved her. Then there were Mr. and Mrs. Weasley, whose enduring love even after many years together was evident to everyone. But she had also seen marriages marred by lost love, like that of her own parents. Theirs was a poignant reminder of how relationships could falter and feelings could fade over time.

That was scary.

But would she say she didn't want to be married one day? That was a whole different topic entirely.

"I'm expecting perfection, all right?" In the living room, Marjorie could only watch from the threshold of the kitchen as Percy stood in front of the five young men, all of whom gazed at him with varying degrees of bemusement.

"Tell me, is this his wedding, or Bill's?" whispered Fred to George, who couldn't help but snicker under his breath.

Percy's sharp ears caught the whisper. He turned sharply, his gaze piercing. "What was that?"

"Nothing, sir!" Fred and George chorused, their expressions instantly sober.

"As best man, I want my best friend to have the wedding of a lifetime — not just for him, but for me too," Percy declared earnestly, pacing in front of them. "I didn't have a proper wedding myself, and I'm practically living vicariously through Bill. Do you understand the gravity of this responsibility?"

The young men nodded, trying to match Percy's intensity with varying degrees of success; Charlie grinned, amused by Percy's fervor; Fred and George ceased their snickers, entirely intimidated; Ron, slightly overwhelmed, tried to take it all in. Harry, however, could only observe quietly as he caught Marjorie's eyes and grinned slightly at her.
