"a scumbag is what he is," ryujin angrily chomps at the sausage snack clenched in her hand, while she's seated in a plastic chair with one foot propped on it as well. she's wearing a matching black adidas track jacket and leggings with white stripes.
she looks across the table to where yeji is carefully trailing her eyes over the scattered photos of seojun and yuna. the pictures depict a sequence of a scene where him and yuna are kissing on the sidewalk of what seems to be a neighborhood. they were near a streetlamp, and judging by how yuna wrapped her arms around seojun's neck, she seems to have been pining for him for a while.
he doesn't seem to reciprocate the level of physical touch towards her, but regardless, the utter sight of it alone enrages me.
"innocent til proven guilty, ryujin," yeji responds without tearing her eyes away from the collage of photos. she grabs a particular photo and raises it towards the light casted through the window of the convenience store we are convened outside of.
"well, these photos are real. she has a photo on her stargram feed of this exact nail set from a while ago," yeji furrows an eyebrow as she fishes her phone out of her shoulder bag and unlocks it.
"i think i'm going to be sick," i grimace as i tilt my head upwards to the sky, where the sun has already set and a beautiful blanket of stars blink back at me. inhale slowly, exhale smoothly. i repeat this breathing pattern and try to maintain composure despite the endless possibilities spinning inside my head as yeji is scrolling through yuna's stargram page.
a person's words are never to be trusted over the reality of their actions. it's a rule that even i am not an exception to. and the truth is, han seojun messed around with a girl that used to be in the same dance team as me. while i was still in the team at the time.
yet, not once have i heard of them two being a thing.
i have resorted to counting the speckles of stars in the sky, 'one, two, three, four, five, six...'
the topic of han seojun's relationship with me is a topic that sours ryujin's mood, because she has warned me so many times not to go back to him or interact with him at all. it makes sense that she is sitting to my right, scrolling on her social media feed, watching humorous short-form videos with a stoic face.
not even funny meme videos can sweeten her mood now.
i tear my eyes away from one upset friend to the other when yeji sighs a breath of relief. her eyes widen as she pushes her phone towards me, laying it across the scattered photographs.
a manicured nail points to a post of a feminine hand flaunting decorative rings and the exact same aqua blue nails that are depicted in the photographs. the timestamp on the lower bottom of the screen does its best to console me.
it was posted during the time period when han seojun and i were broken up.
"at least it wasn't when we were together. why wouldn't he tell me that he dated someone i had spent numerous hours with in a crowded dance practice room?" i can now allow my eyes to scan over the photographs. the hurtful depictions of the guy i loved most, kissing another girl.
