when i regain consciousness, i find myself staring at the high ceiling of a room where i am laying on a blue, velvet couch that resides in it. i hear hushed voices to my right where i spot lee suho sitting at the marbled table in his dining room. standing next to him is han seojun looking over his shoulder.
both their backs are facing me, so i arise from my position the couch and walk towards them. they hear the shuffling of feet across the floor, and seojun turns his head first. his gaze is joined by suho's, to which both of them replace their looks of surprise with relief.
"how are you feeling?" seojun instinctively extends his arm and rests his hand on my lower back. "i guess a little bit tired, but what happened?" i respond.
"you fainted. after... you know," his eyes flicker to the screen that suho has his eyes trained on. it's that same post that exposed my past. i'm not too happy to see it, as it causes a wave of stress rolls over me.
my thoughts are disrupted when i realize there is another post that accompanies my post that had gained traction quickly on the saebom forum site.
i gasp, and my hands fly to my mouth as i read the title "another senior that fakes their image." i see that there are two photos side-by-side. one photo depicts a regular photo of jugyeong with her makeup on, and the other is a photo of her bare face, but she's kneeling on the floor in front of a group of students. they seem to be taunting her, because there is a layer of flour that dusts her skin and raw egg yolks that could be found in her hair and uniform.
this was her biggest secret, that she begged kang soojin to keep quiet about. my mind immediately flashed back to that encounter between the two of them during the school camping trip.
"soojin has to be involved in jugyeong's post," i state without wasting a moment. suho's alert eyes flicker over to me as both guys listen attentively to the memory of soojin and jugyeong's encounter.
seojun's hand immediately reaches for his phone and he's already dialed someone's number. silence hangs in the air between us as i wait for the ringing to stop, and be replaced by someone's voice.
i don't listen to the conversation or exchange of looks between the two guys, but i just begin to space out. everything that i worked hard for, has just been dismissed by this post. would i get expelled from saebom as well? i haven't done anything wrong at saebom, but what would my dance team coach think of me now?
i worked so tirelessly on the team to gain her approval and perhaps establish myself in a good light so i'd earn a recommendation from her to a performing arts college. but now? everything is blank.
my thoughts are interrupted when a third, male voice enters the apartment and i tear my eyes away from the dual screen that suho has on his laptop. jugyeong and my post, side by side.
it is chorong who replaces suho at his seat at the marbled table, and i realize that he has produced a laptop of his own from a black backpack. "i'll figure this out, hyojin. hang in there," he tries to offer words of comfort, but at this point i try to be hopeful too.
seojun pulls me away from the dining room and guides me through suho's apartment, and down the hall. he slides open a glass door and brings me to the balcony where the fresh, cold, night air hits me. his hand is still holding mine when he bends his back to drop his face to my eye level.
