"Okay, I've called all you children here today because I'd like to discuss your rankings and levels as well as what's expected of you. Well, I say I'd, but I should say we'd, Watari will be here soon along with L. After the discussion, you will all have a test. The top 5 will go to meet L in person."

"Meet in person?" I whispered to Matt "So he's not coming now?"

"Yeah, only the top 5 of the orphanage get to meet him in person. The others see him through the computer that Watari brings. " He whispered back, "Usually the top 5 are Near, Mello, me, Robin and Lust, but I think Lust might get kicked off the top 5 by one of my friends here." He winked and nudged me with his elbow. I just smiled and rolled my eyes. "Careful though because Robin is friends with Lust so don't spill anything if you talk to her. Robin likes to approach girls, she doesn't like talking to boys much so if you get into the top 5 then she'll talk to you."

"Okay."

"Guess, stop talking." Roger Dodger said. All eyes turned to me so I just stared at Roger with an emotionless and empty expression. Like Near. I'd seen him around before, sheep dude. Mello told me about him too.

"Say rabbits," I whispered to Matt after Roger started talking again.

"What?"

"Say rabbits, it's the first day of the month and if there's aN R in the month name you say rabbits for good luck for the rest of the month."

"Rabbits? You don't believe in this superstitious stuff do you?"

"Nope, not really."

"Ha ha, okay."

"Matt." Roger gave Matt a stern look. Matt glared at him back like I had but a little angrier. Roger just looked away and started talking. We both just smirked at each other.

A few minutes later there was the sound of the door opening. The front door. A rare thing to hear.

"Watari!" Roger seemed to fill with life out of nowhere once he stepped into the room.

"This ship has sailed," I whispered to Matt.

"Poor, poor Watari, what chu gonna do?" Matt and I bit our lips to hold in our laughter. I could see Mello smirk too. He hated Roger's guts for favouring Near all the time. Let me explain the set up we had, there were 3 rows of desks, each having about 6 tables, each desk fitting no more than 3 kids. But there was one desk at the front which Watari put a laptop. He opened it up revealing a large, bold and black L on the screen with an elegant font.

"Hello, children. I, am L," the voice coming from the newly connected speakers was distorted but you could easily understand it. "I'm sorry to spring this upon you so suddenly, but you are all going to have a test, hence you all being at your desks. You won't have prepared for this, nor is it like anything you've been tested on before. Quite different indeed. If the students at the ends of your desks could move around to the outside, that would be wonderful." We moved to the outsides of the desks so Matt stayed where he was and Mello and I moved around the edge. Then L continued. "Now, before the test begins, the top 5 scorers will get to meet me in person after the tests have been marked. All of you will then have to begin to attend school. There has been a school especially built for you which is connected to the orphanage so that your identities can't be found." Aw, crap. School.

"Dammit!" I hear Matt say under his breath.

"I'm used to it, I had to go to school at my old orphanages."

"Lucky you." He said in a way you could just tell he was not looking forward to this. More video game time without school you know? Then Roger began pacing down the aisles with the test papers and placing them down on the desk along with a pencil. So it began.
