Wednesday's POV

My eyes widened as I jolted awake, heart racing, and sat up abruptly. Sweat dripped from my forehead, my breath coming in ragged gasps as the remnants of the dream clung to me. I blinked, trying to shake the disorienting fog in my mind, before instinctively turning to my side.

The other side of the bed was empty.

Enid's usual spot, the warmth and presence I'd grown used to, was conspicuously absent. The sheets were cold, untouched, as if she had never been there. A wave of unease washed over me, my pulse quickening as I scanned the room for any sign of her.

But the silence was loud, amplifying the sinking feeling in my chest.

My mind raced, replaying the promise she made. The words, the kiss, the look in her eyes before she left. "I'll come back to you." But she wasn't here. Where was she? And why hadn't she returned?

A knot tightened in my stomach as I swung my legs over the edge of the bed, the cold floor beneath me doing little to calm the rising panic. Something was wrong. I could feel it.

"Enid," I whispered, the name escaping my lips like a plea.

A sudden knock broke through the silence, making my heart race. Without thinking, I dashed toward the door, hoping, praying, that I'd find Enid standing there, back safely in my arms.

But as I swung the door open, my breath caught. It wasn't Enid. Instead, I was met with Yoko, her pale, vampire-like skin stark against the early morning light, her chest heaving as she caught her breath. Urgency was etched into every line of her face, her dark black eyes wide with something close to panic.

For a moment, I couldn't hide the flicker of disappointment that crossed my face. It's not like I wasn't relieved to see Yoko,,,I was. But she wasn't the one I had been waiting for. Not the one I needed right now.

"Yoko," I said, my voice tight with tension, "What's going on?"

She took a moment to steady herself, still visibly shaken. "Wednesday, I---" she began, her voice uncharacteristically shaky. "I found something, remember when you asked me to search about Enid's past ?"

I let Yoko continue.

"Her husband-to-be killed her. Right before she was about to turn into a werewolf during her wedding." Yoko's voice was heavy with tension. "She hadn't wolfed out for years, but destiny decided to play its hand on her wedding day. And do you know who she was marrying?"

I stood still, letting her words sink in, trying to make sense of the story.

"It was Ajax Petropolus... the son of werewolf hunters."

A chill ran down my spine, my mind swirling with the weight of her words. I could feel my heartbeat quickening, but I forced myself to stay composed. "Yoko, I don't have time for stories. Even if that's true, it doesn't change the fact that Enid's still missing," I said, my voice taut with stress. I couldn't afford to lose focus. Not now.

Yoko didn't flinch. Her expression remained dead serious, her eyes locked onto mine. "That's not the only catch, Wens."

My stomach twisted, a subtle shiver running through me as Yoko paused, as if preparing for some devastating revelation.

"Our asshole boss... Don't you recognize his name? Alexander Petropolus." Yoko's words hung in the air like a dark cloud. "He could be a descendant. Maybe the offspring of Ajax, or even of his son. He's connected, Wednesday. And he could be plotting something. That's why he fucking fired you."

The realization hit me like a punch to the gut. Alexander Petropolus, a name I hadn't given much thought to until now, could be tied to a dark, dangerous legacy. And suddenly, everything started making a twisted sort of sense. The firing wasn't just about my performance. It was a strategic move, a part of a bigger game I hadn't yet seen.
