"What do you think you're doing?!" Argeno shouted.

"Get out of the way!" Beryl shouted back.

"I can't do that." Earl Welton glared.

"You punk-!"

"Apologize to Miss Sears."

Sears stood behind them. She was nearly at the point of crying. Beryl grit his teeth, he wasn't going to lose to Earl Welton any time soon.

"I challenge you to a duel, Welton."

This surprised both the Earl and Sears. She didn't want the two of them to fight. However, Earl Welton was not backing down.

"I accept."

...

"So that's what happened?" The Marquess asked.

"Dad! Please stop the two of them!"

"Sear... Honestly, I was thinking of marrying you to Beryl..."

"I'm not going to do that!" Sears shouted, "The Beryl Onyx I've seen so far was either a demon wielding a sword, or a person who only monitored me to check if I was meeting with another man..."

"That's because he loves you-"

"THAT'S NOT LOVE!!" Sears slammed her hands on the desk, her tears began falling down, "The kind and caring Beryl of the past... doesn't exist anymore!"

"Sears, do you happen to know about Earl Welton?"

"What?"

"No, I understand. So please take your leave." The Marquess stood up.

"All right..."

After Sears left, the Marquess walked over to the window, looking at the sunset. He placed his hand on the glass, seemingly thinking of something.

"Sorry Onyx..." He whispered.

Soon, it started to rain. Beryl lay in the damp soil, he took shallow breaths as he was running out of strength. There were two deep cuts in his cheek, they were still bleeding. Earl Welton stood in front of him, breathing heavily. He had blood splattered on his face and mana swirling around his sword.

"It's my win..." He said.

Sears came running over, seemingly in a rush.

"Are you okay?!" She shouted.

"Sears..." Beryl whispered, 'I'm fine-"

"Sir Welton!" She shouted.

"I'm stronger than you think," Earl Welton hugged Sears, "So don't worry."

Beryl lay in the mud, a single tear dripped down his face, mixing with the blood on his cheek.

"Sears..." He whispered.

It was morning, the rough night had passed and Beryl Onyx was nowhere to be found.

"Marquess," Reported a servant, "Sir Beryl left during the night."

"I see," The Marquess nodded, "This is better for everyone."

3 years later...

Sears sat in a rocking chair beside a photo of her and Earl Welton. She held her belly which had grown many sizes. Suddenly, someone quietly opened the door, trying not to startle her.

"Sears," Earl Welton walked in, "I think you should know about this. It's regarding Sir Beryl, he has become a swordmaster." Earl Welton continued, "And also, I think he has sought revenge against the three families that bankrupted the Onyx family."
