When Charlotte and Engfa arrived at the door of the great hall, Engfa grasped Charlotte's hand tightly. She fixed her eyes on Charlotte, took a deep breath, and said in a soft but strong voice, "Everything will be fine, Charlotte. I am with you, and together we will overcome any difficulty." These words calmed Charlotte's tension a little. Engfa's presence gave her peace. The two guardian wizards bowed slightly in front of Engfa and Charlotte, and then solemnly opened the doors of the hall. As soon as the door opened, a dark atmosphere hit Charlotte's face. Only the candlelight and the soft, magical lights used by the witches illuminated the hall. In the middle was a long, magnificent dining table. The crystal goblets and silver decanters placed on the table shone faintly with the reflection of the light.
Luther sat on the left side of the table with his wife Elowen by his side. Opposite him was Rowena, with Myx right next to her, greeting them with a warm smile. Everyone except her father stood up to greet Charlotte and Engfa. Feeling the delicate balance of heat and tension in the atmosphere, Charlotte took a deep breath.
The large, authoritative chair at the head of the table was reserved for Engfa, and right next to it was the empty chair where Charlotte would sit. This detail did not escape Charlotte's notice. This special place of her own made Charlotte feel even more real that she had joined this family.
In front of Charlotte was a silver jug and a goblet. The smell of fresh blood inside the jug immediately reached her nose. She could smell the freshness, and it brought a sense of relief to her. However, this relief was cut short when Rowena's eyes met. Charlotte and Engfa looked away, slightly shy, but they were careful not to let anything slip to each other.
Luther was still watching them with a tense and cold demeanor, his expression hard and dull, adding to the tension hanging in the hall.
Elowen hugged her daughter Engfa and Charlotte warmly. Although she still had some doubts about Charlotte, she had now accepted her as one of the family. After a brief greeting with the family, everyone took their places. However, Luther greeted Charlotte coldly with a bow. Despite this cold welcome, Charlotte bowed her head respectfully.
The table was soon filled with rich food and drink. Various fruits, meats, breads, and of course the fresh goblet of blood that stood in front of Charlotte adorned the table. Throughout the meal, the family began to talk about the problems and important issues in their realm. However, Luther did not join in these conversations, he just sat there in silence.
Charlotte was aware of the tension at the table and still felt uneasy. Her eyes occasionally glanced at the glass of blood in front of her, but she hesitated to drink. Engfa, noticing this, gently held Charlotte's hand and whispered to her. "Why don't you drink your blood? Relax," he said, trying to encourage her with his eyes.
Charlotte took a deep breath, but she still couldn't get over her nervousness. At that moment, Rowena intervened, speaking in a gentle tone. "Charlotte, we all know your nature. We want you to be comfortable and feel like yourself. We're all family here, so please don't hold back," she said, with understanding in her eyes.
Myx and Elowen joined her. "Relax, Charlotte," Myx said with a wink. Elowen smiled slightly, "We accept you as you are. Be sincere."
These words calmed Charlotte's uneasiness a little. She took a deep breath and raised her glass. The fresh scent of blood filled her nose, and she closed her eyes slightly, taking her first sip. Her tension had eased a little, Engfa's hands were still on hers, and this gave her confidence.
Charlotte began to come to as she slowly drank the blood from the glass in front of her. Feeling the color return to her face, Engfa took a deep breath and relaxed. Relieving Charlotte's anxiety a little was a source of inner peace for her. However, this relief did not last long, because Luther began to speak, staring at Charlotte.
