"Mama! Papa!" I shouted in the darkness as I ran towards them but they only smiled as they turned towards the rogue and launched at it shifting mid air. "Mama! Papa!" I yelled as I was held back by strong and powerful arms that I knew too well.
"You can't go out there PJ," Ryker said as he held me back as I watched more rogues ambush my parents as they fought to protect our pack. I watched as they bit and clawed at them but my parents didn't back down as they snapped the rogues necks one by one before all that was left was a pile of dead bodies around them whine they bled. My siblings stood by them panting and huffing with scratches and streaks of blood all over them. Their hair was matted much like how the furs of my parents were matted with blood.
"Let me go," I begged my mate as I struggled for free myself from his hold, "they need me."
"They will not be happy if I let you out there specially in your condition," he said as he placed a hand on my baby bump making my fight evaporate and all I could was slump into him as I watched my parents shift slowly before looking in our direction their eyes loving with mine before a smile graced their lips before looking at my siblings. I could hear what they were saying and felt my heart drop and knew what was about to happen as they held hand before their eyes closed and they fell backwards.
"Mama! Papa!" I screamed, jolting up in bed, the world around me coming into focus. My body was heaving, covered in a sheen of sweat, and tears streamed down my cheeks. A muffled sound of concern broke through the fog of my panic, and Ryker's strong arms enveloped me, steadying my racing heart.
"Shh," he whispered, his voice thick with sleep yet laced with tenderness. "It's okay, you're okay."
"It—it was so real," I whimpered, clinging to him as if he were my lifeline. "I watched my parents die right before my eyes, Rye."
"Shh, that won't happen, PJ," he reassured me, his tone soothing. "They're okay; they're home, sleeping peacefully. You're safe here with me."
But the comforting words felt hollow against the vivid imagery that still haunted my mind. The shadows of my parents' demise lingered in the corners of my consciousness, a reminder of how fragile life could be.
Ryker held me tightly, rocking slightly as if trying to soothe my trembling body. The remnants of the nightmare still twisted through my mind like a dark vine, but his warmth and strength slowly began to chase away the chill it left behind.
"PJ, let's talk about it," he suggested softly, moving us to a more comfortable position on the bed. He propped himself up on one elbow, his concern evident in the way he studied my face. "Tell me what you saw."
I took a deep breath, trying to gather my thoughts, but the images were still hauntingly vivid. "I saw Mama and Papa—" my voice cracked, and I had to pause. "They were fighting rogues, and I couldn't do anything to help them. I was just... screaming. They fought so bravely but..." I choked on the last words, the memory of their smiles before they fell echoing in my ears.
"It sounds like it was overwhelming," Ryker said gently. "But it was just a dream, love. A terrible one, but it doesn't reflect what's real. Your parents are strong—they're safe. They've faced worse things than this."
"Do you really think so?" I asked, searching his eyes for reassurance.
"I know it," he replied earnestly. "They've always protected this pack. They've prepared for every danger, just like I'll always protect you and our little one. You have to trust that."
I nodded slowly, feeling the warmth of his words wrap around me like a protective shield. The thought of my parents, confident and strong, battling through adversities filled me with some comfort. Perhaps they really were just fine.
