Title: Simple Math
Steve Rogers paced back and forth in the kitchen, his mind clearly preoccupied. Natasha Romanoff, on the other hand, sat comfortably on the counter, chopsticks in hand, indulging in a box of takeout with casual ease.
“If you kill a killer, the number of killers in the world stays the same,” Steve said, finally voicing his thoughts aloud, his tone serious.
Natasha, barely lifting her gaze from her food, raised an eyebrow. She paused just long enough to shove another bite of noodles into her mouth, chewing thoughtfully before responding.
“Kill two,” she said nonchalantly, the words coming out muffled through a mouthful of takeout.
Steve stopped in his tracks, blinking in confusion. He stared at her as if waiting for her to take it back, to explain she was joking.
But Natasha just kept eating.
Steve opened his mouth, closed it again, and finally let out a sigh. “That’s not how it works, Nat.”
Natasha shrugged, still chewing. “Seems efficient to me,” she said, grabbing another bite. “Problem solved. Less killers.”
Steve pinched the bridge of his nose, muttering something under his breath about morality. He shook his head and turned to the fridge, muttering, “We’re really gonna need to work on your ethics.”
Natasha just smirked, watching him out of the corner of her eye. “We all have different approaches, Captain.” She waved a chopstick at him playfully. “Yours is a little more… idealistic. Mine’s practical.”
Steve sighed again but couldn’t help the slight smile tugging at his lips. "That's one way to look at it."
With a chuckle, Natasha leaned back against the counter, her smirk widening. “And that’s why I’m still alive, Steve.” She picked up her chopsticks again, as if to underline her point, and resumed eating.
Steve shot her a look, but there was no denying the admiration behind it. “You never change.”
“Wouldn’t want me to,” she replied, winking.
