Rose's Point Of View:

As Enzo walks out the gates, I see the girls and they're walking in my direction. I start to walk toward them, and when we reach each other I ask,

"So where is your Mom picking us up?"

"Usual. The hill," Charlotte says.

"Alright, just making sure," I say.

We start to walk out of the gates, Autumn on my left, Anaya on my right, and Charlotte behind both of them, with me in front of everyone. When we reach the crosswalk, we can't decide whether to take the hill or the sidewalk.

"Dude, let's just take the sidewalk!" I yell trying to convince them.

"Exactly, I'm with Rose," Ananya says.

"Do you not realize that the hill is quicker? I'm trying to get home," Charlotte says.

"Exactly! See, she agrees with me. Let's just take the hill," Autumn states.

"Yeah, the hill is quicker bu-"

"See! I win. We're taking the hill," Autumn yells in her version of victory.

"No, no. Shut the fuck up. Let me finish. I was going to say the hill is quicker, but I don't want my legs to hurt by the time we're up there." I say, looking to the right, and I see Charlotte on her phone walking the hill. At the same time, Ananya is on my left, already taking the sidewalk.

I start to jog to catch up to her. By the time they were there, Ananya and I had already been at the top of the hill for like 30 seconds. The car ride was packed, with our huge backpacks and three of us cramped in the back (I was in the middle.)

"Thank you, for letting us sleepover," I say to Charlotte's Mom. Then Autumn and Ananya thank her right after.

"You're welcome..." she looks like she's searching for the words. Or she just doesn't know my name (We've all been hanging out for four years)

"Rose," I say.

"Yes! Rose. Thank you, and you're welcome," she says awkwardly then we all go up to Charlotte's room.

When we get into Charlotte's room, we quickly make ourselves at home. I automatically sit on her bean bag, Autumn lies on the floor, and Ananya starts organizing and cleaning up her desk. Then I remembered what happened with her mom minutes before.

"Bruh, did your Mom really not know my name?" I ask.

Charlotte scoffs. "Yeah, it's so messed up. We've known each other for how many years now and have been hanging out for how many years now? And she doesn't remember your name; this is not even the first time this has happened. This one time in 7th grade, I was telling her something about you guys, and she asked something. Calling you the black one with curly hair."

"Hold up what the fuck?" Autumn says getting up off the floor.

"What the actual hell?" I say shocked.

"Look, I'm sorry but you're Mom's a piece of shit," I say trying not to be harsh.

"No, it's fine. I totally agree," she says casually as if she didn't just call her own mom a piece of shit.

"Not try to ruin this moment or anythingg, but can we change the subject?" Ananya asks.

"Yeah, that's the one thing I need right now. This conversation is pissing me off," Autumn says.
