Enzo's Point Of View:
"By-" Rose was about to say, then I heard a girl from behind me say,"Heyy Enzo," I wave back. And before I got a chance to say bye to Rose, she had already pulled off.
"Hi... Violet? Is it?" I ask unsure.
"Yep. Who was that?" She asks. Why should she care? I know she's in Rose's first-period math class. She said she's super bitchy, and that Violet doesn't like her. I know she knows who I was talking to, so I don't understand why she asked or cares.
"Just my friend," I say, to get her off my back. To me, she's so much more. I wish we were more than just friends.
"Oh."
"Yeah," I say while seeing my car.
"I don't really understand, why people like people like he-" She begins to say so I cut her off. I know she was about to say her, I'm not letting that fly. I'm not letting her or anyone diss Rose.
"Oh, I see my car."
"Oh. Okay, bye," she says gloomily.
I run across the street again without saying bye. If I can't say bye to Rose I can't say bye to anyone. Especially, not her. I turn to the left to my car and see the beautiful black, 87' Chevy El Camino. I see Dad in the driver's seat, I was kind of expecting Mom to pick me up, but I don't really mind Dad.
"Sup Lorenzo Neko Martin," Dad says, I laugh.
"Hi Dante Anthony Martin," I say he gives me that straight-faced look at says really?
"Who was that?" he asks.
"To be honest I barely know that girl. She just went up to me and started talking to me. Rose was trying to say bye to me, but she started talking to me first. Then I couldn't say bye to Rose, 'cause by then she had already pulled off," I say in a sad tone.
"Damn son, I'm sorry"
"It's all good. I can always text her, but it still won't be the same as saying it face to face," I say.
"I saw you got the door for her, I see I raised you right," he says firmly.
"Yeah, of course," I say while swallowing from nervousness. Knowing the actual reason I did it, all girls love a gentleman, so I'll be hers.
I watch as we, pull up to the house I look at our address 2079, on Eastern Bitch Hallow Way. Since it's a Thursday, it's garbage day, I already know Dad's going to ask me to take in-
"You better take in the cans, I ain't playing," Dad says. Called it. I watched him pull into the driveway, using the garage opener. I get out, of the car grabbing my black Jansport backpack. I turn around, to grab the cans, first I get the brown then blue can. I hear a text come in from my phone, it's Rose.
Rose: Sup
Me: Hi
Rose: I tried to say bye but
I text while walking in the house.
Me: Violet interrupted ik 🤦🏾♂️
Me: I don't even know why she was talking to me in the first place 🫤
I text while reaching upstairs, then to my room. Setting my backpack down plopping myself on my bed. I hear another text about two minutes later.
Rose: Maybe she likes you or sum 🤷🏽♀️
Me: U can't be serious
Rose: I'm fr why is that so hard to imagine that someone likes you 💀
Me: Idk why would anyone like me...
A few seconds later I see Rose is FaceTiming me. I turn my camera off before answering. While sitting up straight.
"Hello?" I say, I see her looking straight-faced at the camera. Likes she mad or something.
"Lorenzo. Neko. Martin." She says firmly, with an attitude.
"What Rose. Jean. Ramirez?" I say with an attitude back.
What's up with everyone saying full names today? I think it's something in the air or something. Like someone sprinkled some kind of drug this morning in the city, and now it has everyone tweakin' today. Whatever it is, it isn't very pleasant and people gotta stop.
"The hell makes you think, people wouldn't like you?" She says in a pessimistic tone.
"Cause' I'm me..."
"Bro, what do you mean? You know how popular you are?"
"Just cause I'm popular doesn't a girl would actually like me," I say in a slightly emotional tone.
"I can name about five girls right now," she says in a slick tone.
"Alright do it, Ms. Thang," I say with a smirk. I watch, as she lists them on her finger.
"Violet, clearly," she says with a snort. "Ava, Luna, Emma, Me-" she pauses. "eca" she finishes. At first, I thought she said she likes me, but now I'm starting to think she just, had to think of her name, and slightly hesitated. Yeah. That's exactly what happened.
