Aiko & Heeseung

The group piled into the van, ready to kick off the mission that could very well get them all killed. The air was tense, thick with unspoken fears, but nobody said a damn word about it. The sun had barely risen, casting a dim, pale light over the wreckage of the city as they drove off into the unknown. It was too early for anyone to really talk anyway, but everyone knew they needed to stay alert.

Jake was in the driver's seat, hands gripping the wheel with a focus that made it clear he wasn't fucking around. Next to him, Aiko sat in the passenger seat, trying to keep her thoughts from spiraling. She could feel Heeseung's presence right next to her in the second row, and every now and then, she'd sneak a glance his way. He was quiet, like usual, leaning against the window, arms crossed, staring out into the distance as if he could will the road to stay empty of Neomorphs.

Behind them, Sunghoon, Jay, and Jungwon filled up the middle row, armed to the teeth and sitting with a mix of anticipation and anxiety. And then in the back, Yuna, Sunoo, and Ni-ki were squished together, like siblings on a road trip, except instead of a beach at the end of this journey, it was the Genetech labs.

"Fucking hell, Jake. Could you try not to hit every damn pothole?" Ni-ki groaned as the van bounced over a particularly bad spot on the road, his head smacking against the roof.

Jake didn't even glance back, eyes glued to the road. "You wanna drive, smartass? Be my guest."

"Nah, I'm good," Ni-ki replied, rubbing his head. "I like being alive."

The van was mostly silent, save for the hum of the engine and the occasional thud as they maneuvered around the wreckage of abandoned cars. Piles of twisted metal and broken glass littered the streets. It was like driving through a graveyard of the past. But no Neomorphs yet. That was something.
