Aiko & Heeseung
The van rumbled softly as it pulled off the main road, the group inside exhausted, tense, and on high alert. It had been a hell of a day—the neomorph encounter in the tunnel still weighing heavily on everyone's minds. Aiko could feel her heart still racing, the phantom images of the creatures flashing in her mind every time she blinked.
Jake, sitting next to Heeseung in the driver's seat, glanced over and muttered, "We need to stop for the night. We can't keep driving in this state. We're dead meat if something happens and we're too tired to react."
Heeseung gave a tight nod, his eyes scanning the area as they drove past a small, dilapidated town, barely visible under the dimming light of the sunset. The houses were scattered, roofs half-collapsed, windows shattered. It looked abandoned—exactly the kind of place they needed.
"There," Heeseung said, pointing to a slightly more intact house up ahead. The roof was mostly still there, the front door hanging off one hinge, but the structure seemed stable enough to provide shelter for the night. "We'll check that one."
Jake slowed the van and carefully pulled into what was left of a cracked driveway. The overgrown grass reached almost halfway up the side of the vehicle, and an eerie silence hung over the place.
"I don't like this," Sunghoon muttered from the back, leaning forward in his seat to get a better look. "It feels... off."
"Everything feels off these days," Heeseung replied dryly as he unbuckled his seatbelt. "But we don't have a choice. We need rest."
The group piled out of the van, stretching their stiff limbs, still cautious, weapons ready in case anything jumped out of the shadows. Heeseung motioned for Jake and Sunghoon to follow him inside.
"Stay here," Heeseung ordered the others as he nodded toward Aiko, Yuna, and the rest of the group. "We'll check the house, make sure it's safe before we settle in."
Aiko gave him a small nod, her body still buzzing with residual adrenaline from the tunnel. She watched as the three of them disappeared into the house, guns raised, their figures silhouetted against the darkening sky.
Inside, the house was eerily quiet. Dust covered every surface, thick and undisturbed. The wallpaper was peeling, and furniture lay scattered around as if whoever had lived there had left in a hurry.
Jake moved carefully, shining his flashlight over the floor, checking each corner for any signs of movement. "It's too quiet," he muttered.
"Better than hearing those goddamn neomorphs," Sunghoon replied, his eyes scanning the shadows.
