Isn't it weird, how people who once knew,

everything about your everyday life, now know nothing about you.

Its been two weeks since that incident. Annie has been ignoring me in school as if I am plague. Melissa being in her class isn't making anything better either. I remember how Melissa told me that their teacher had given Annie a punishment since she did not want to sit with Mel.

And you know why this is surprising? Because, Annie is has never ever got a punishment in class.

She is the perfect teacher's girl.

The distance between Annie and me grew.

Even Sebby didn't talk much to me. I explained her everything but she said that I've hurt Annie really bad. What does that even mean? But Sebby never answered me. Hugo didn't seem to know anything either.

I sent casual messages to check on her but Annie did never reciprocate with the same warmth and enthusiasm. Her heart, once brimming with open devotion, now sheltered itself behind a wall of hurt and confusion.

Today, I finally plucked up the courage to confront Annie directly. I found her sitting alone in the school courtyard, her eyes distant, lost in a whirlwind of thoughts. With hesitant steps, I reached out to her.

Why is this so difficult? Annie is- was my best friend.

"Hey, Annie," My voice wavered slightly, "I wanted to talk to you. I can't help but feel like things are a little weird between us lately."

Annie was startled by my presence, she looked at me with those eyes which once used to light up, now were emotionless or maybe trying to hide the emotions." Yeah," she retorted.

Her tone was uninterested.

I took a step closer, to get a better understanding of her. I sat down beside her, maintaining my distance.

"Is it because of Mel?"

Annie's expressions changed on the mention of her name. She paused, considering her response.

"I guess I just never realized you were seeing someone," she admitted, her gaze dropping to her hands.

I sighed. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you, Annie. It's just that Mel and I... we're not entirely sure about things yet. I didn't want to make a big deal out of it until I was certain."
