Eris opted for a peaceful dinner with his mate, rather than facing the music now that he was mobile. Azriel had assured him that Mor had explained their deception, but Eris knew that it likely wouldn't do anything to change his mates families view on him. He would have to earn their trust, and so he would.

"Mor and that Illyrian have been seeing over Autumn, yes?" Eris asked Azriel as they stood wrapped around each other on the balcony.

"Her name is Emerie, and yes. I can assure you, they are more than trustworthy, and Lucien has been checking in on them, but I assume you heard that." The shadowsinger sighed deeply. "I'm just sorry this happened to you."

Eris shrugged. "Just as long as we can identify the knife, so it can't happen to anyone else."

"Yes, well, the thing is that the servants in the castle have already cleaned it and put it in the weapons room, and it has no defining features, other than a deadly curse. What are we going to do, slice someone with every knife in the castle? Finding a willing volunteer would be hard enough."

"I've been thinking about it, and Amren said that there was another girl who was injured with the same knife, Caramie Lesian. She has been dead for a long time, but her bones may still be there. If you could get a sample from them, and match it to a knife, then you have the offending weapon!" Eris grinned. He had been thinking over it since Amren had mentioned the girl.

"That's brilliant! I'll ask Varian about it. We would need Tarquin's permission to go grave-digging in his court, anyway."

"But let's let someone else handle it. If Thesan is going to keep me here for a while longer, we might as well treat it as a holiday."

That night, Eris didn't have to lay in anguish as he watched his mate cry over him. He didn't have to stew in the pain of his every muscle, stiffening from being immobile. The High Lord of Autumn got to fall asleep on his mates chest, listen to his heartbeat, and feel his hands in his hair.

He listened to the night owls, knowing that if they became annoying he could get up and shoo them away, rather than tolerate it. He buried his face in the crook of Azriels neck, placing kisses below his ear, and felt no fear that his father would walk in and kill them both. Eris's life was finally fixed. He could finally be happy.

Eris would wave a happy goodbye to his old, sad life, and walk hand-in-hand with his mate, his Azriel, to his next one. Every night, he would fall asleep next to the male he loved, and when he woke in the morning, it would never again be to a cold empty bed.

Life was good.
