That evening, seated at the dining table, Allie tried not to show her nervousness. Her parents were happily chatting between bites, while Maricar occasionally joined the conversation—a behavior she hadn’t displayed before. Clearing her throat, Allie finally spoke up.
"Mom, Dad, I have something to tell you."
Her parents looked at her, concern etched on their faces.
"Is something wrong, sweetheart?" her mother asked.
"Yes, Mom. Everything is wrong with me."
Maricar looked puzzled by Allie’s statement, unsure of what she meant.
"I have superpowers," Allie said.
She waited for them to laugh, but instead, she saw worry on their faces.
"Will you believe me if I tell you that I burned Rainier's skin? I healed it, too. I can teleport anywhere I want just by thinking about it. And I can read your minds."
Her mother dropped her fork. "Allie, honey, are you okay? Are you feeling alright? Maybe it’s because of the accident—"
Allie picked up a glass of water and concentrated, willing the water to heat up.
"OMG!" Maricar exclaimed as she saw the water begin to boil in Allie's glass.
Both of their parents' eyes widened in shock. "Who else knows about this?" the father asked.
"Rainier, Maia, Zenda..."
"Who are Maia and Zenda?" the mother inquired.
"They're the ones who told me I'm not from this world," Allie replied.
The parents fell silent.
"How did I really end up with you, Mom, Dad?"
She had wanted to ask that question for so long. Now was the right time to learn the truth. Her parents exchanged glances, and it was her mother who finally spoke.
"I was in labor when suddenly there was a light in the house," her mother began. "And right before our eyes, you appeared, wrapped in a white blanket."
"I was the one who picked you up," her father continued. "We didn’t know where you came from. You just showed up."
"So after I gave birth to Maricar a few minutes later, your dad and I decided to take you in. That’s why we told everyone you were twins."
"But we don’t know where your real parents are or who they are, sweetheart. But that doesn’t change the fact that your mom and I love you so much. We love you dearly, Allie."
Tears streamed down her face. She already knew that.
"But I’m different. I don’t even know myself anymore," she said.
Her mother stood up and walked over to her, wrapping her in a hug. "We still love you so much, sweetheart. You are still our Alessandra. Don’t forget that," her mother said.
Allie excused herself and went upstairs. She locked herself in the bathroom and turned on the shower. She removed her clothes and looked at herself in the mirror.
Nothing had changed. She still looked the same. As she turned to the side, she felt something on the back of her waist.
"Oh my God, Allie, what happened to you?" she gasped. She turned to the door. "Mom?"
Did she forgot to lock the door?
Her mother came closer and examined her back. "What’s wrong, Mom?" Allie asked.
