Darkness. Total darkness. That’s what greeted Allie when she opened her eyes.
“Maia?” she called out.
She felt a hand touch her face. “Allie.”
“Where are we?”
“I don’t know yet, but this isn’t good.”
“Not good? What do you mean?”
“Shh…”
Allie fell silent.
“Someone is coming,” Maia whispered. “Where’s Zenda?”
“I’m here,” came Zenda’s quiet reply beside them.
“Zen, do you have any idea where we are?” Maia asked her.
“No. But why did we end up here?”
They fell silent when a voice spoke.
“No matter what happens, don’t move,” said a deep male voice.
Then came the sound of an animal in pain. A scream mixed with sobbing. The cries cut through Allie’s heart, filling her with a pain so deep it brought tears to her eyes before she even realized it.
“We’re in the Valley of Death,” Maia whispered.
But Allie couldn’t stop her tears as the cries of the animals grew louder. No, it wasn’t just animals anymore… There were many now.
All their cries filled the air. Allie couldn’t stop herself. She walked through the darkness, following the sounds of their suffering.
“Allie?” Maia called when she realized Allie was no longer beside her. “Allie?”
But Allie kept moving forward. Then, something happened—her vision changed. Suddenly, she could see through the darkness. She could see the creatures—hairless, with dark skin, sharp fangs, red eyes, and arched backs. Horrifying creatures. And yet, she didn’t care. All she could see was their pain, their agony, their cries for help.
That’s why her heart was breaking.
One of the creatures approached Allie, baring its fangs—not to attack her, but as if asking for her touch. She reached out and gently placed her hand on its hairless head.
Closing her eyes, she whispered, "I'm here to heal your broken soul."
Maia and the others, who had come closer, were astonished when a soft light emerged from Allie’s hand. The light enveloped the entire body of the creature until nothing could be seen except the radiant glow. Moments later, the creature transformed into a young boy.
Allie smiled at him. "You are saved, child," she said gently.
"My savior," the boy whispered back.
One by one, the other creatures began approaching her, drawn to her light. Soon, they were surrounded by its glow. Gradually, the entire area lit up, and the creatures, now transformed into human form, stood around them. Allie looked around. The once-dark world had turned into a barren desert—no trees, no houses, nothing but sand.
"Your Highness," Maia said, kneeling in reverence before her.
Zenda followed suit, bowing her head.
The man who had been standing behind Zenda also knelt.
"Why are you all kneeling?" Allie asked, confused.
"You truly are our savior, My Princess," Maia said, her voice filled with awe.
