CHAPTER 28

From my position, I could clearly hear the screams
from the other side of the prison. I couldn't see
what was happening, but I could hear every cry and
shout. Maia was crying out in pain, and I felt my
heart being torn apart.

"Maia!" I shouted. But it seemed pointless, as she
couldn't hear me.

I started to cry. There was nothing I could do to help Maia. I felt utterly worthless because I couldn't even stop the torture being inflicted upon her. This is
what it feels like to be powerless.

I wished I still had my powers.

Maia's screams stopped, but soon I heard the cries of Rollieh and Jhosie. Oh God, if there is a God in this world, please help me.
I thought the torture of the couple would never end.
What were they doing? Why did they need to do
this?

I didn't realize that in my tears, I had lost
consciousness. I woke up to someone caressing my
cheek.

"Maia?" was the first thought that came to my mind.
I smiled as I felt the gentle touch.

"You are so beautiful, my love."

I opened my eyes at the sound of a man's voice and quickly pulled away from his touch. I winced as I felt a sudden pain in my neck. Then I remembered the
chain that was tied around it. I was being observed
closely by emotionless eyes.

"You look like her, but you are not her. Is it because
you can't remember me?"

"I don't want to remember you."

He laughed.

"Alessandra, you really are something. I like this
fierce side of you. I hated your soft and gentle side when you were still my lona. Oh wait, you were my Keia, too. I almost forgot."

I didn't understand what he was talking about.

"But sadly, my love, I hate you so much that I can't
wait to kill you again."

I shuddered at his words.

"Who are you? Why are
you doing this to me and my friends?"

He laughed again, a laugh filled with malice. “Because I want to see you in pain. It’s my revenge for what you did to me.”

“I don’t know you. I can’t remember doing anything wrong to you.”

“When you remember your past, you’ll understand why I’m doing this. Until you recall your sins against me, I will let you hear your friends scream. I’m still giving your little wolf lover a break. Should I go after your sister next?”

“No! Please, no. For the love of God, don’t hurt my sister.” I suddenly fell to my knees in front of him.

“Oh my, this is unexpected. Is it because you don’t have any powers? You should have knelt before me long ago.”

“Please, I’m begging you. Just hurt me instead; don’t hurt my friends. Please don’t hurt my sister. I’m pleading with you.”

I couldn’t bear to hear Maricar in pain. She didn’t deserve to suffer just because she was my sister. It wasn’t her fault she was in this world.

“That’s it, my love. Your friends’ lives in exchange for yours. We will reach that moment. But I want you to suffer more. It delights me to see you so hopeless, crying while begging. I want to see you suffer a little bit more. And I will show you how I’m going to torture your friends, your sister, and that useless soulmate of yours.”

I didn’t care how pathetic I sounded begging him. I was willing to sacrifice my life just to save my sister, Maia, and our companions. Lord Ehann had left me while I kept screaming at him to have mercy on my friends. But he just laughed at every plea I made.
