“Why don’t they have eyes?” Allie asked in shock as she got a closer look at their faces.
Zenda and Maia stepped forward as well.
“Oh, my Goddess Iona!” Zenda exclaimed upon seeing that the children really did not have eyes.
“They were born normal,” the mother of the children explained. “But after a few years, they suddenly lost their sight. We don’t know why or what caused it. No one knows how to treat them.” Allie felt her heart break at the thought.
“Let’s eat first,” Todor said. “But before we do, I’m Todor,” he introduced himself.
“I’m Zenda,” Zenda said, pointing to herself.
“I’m Maia,” Maia also introduced herself.
“Allie,” she said, joining in.
They took their seats at the dining table with Todor's family. There were vegetables and fish on the table. It was only then that they realized how hungry they were.
“Please excuse the meal; it’s all we could manage,” Todor’s wife said.
“Thank you for the food,” Allie replied.
“By the way, what brings you to this place?” Todor asked.
“We’re just looking for something,” Maia answered.
“Do vampires eat regular food too?” Allie asked when she noticed that Zenda was also eating.
“Yes, they’re not like the stories you have, where they are dead and live by becoming vampires. They are born this way,” Maia explained.
“Oh…”
“Aren’t you from around here, Allie?” Siera asked her.
“No,” Allie quickly replied.
“She means she doesn’t have a wide knowledge of other beings,” Maia corrected her response.
They accepted their explanation without asking further questions. After they finished eating, Todor and his wife provided them with blankets, pillows, and clothes they could wear to sleep. Maia was surprised when Allie pulled out a piece of clothing from her bag.
“What?” Allie asked her.
“Why do you have underwear?” Maia asked, laughing.
“I’m a girl, of course I would bring some. Want to borrow a pair?” Allie replied with a smirk.
This made Maia laugh even more.
“Didn’t I tell you there’s no difference between this world and the world you grew up in? The only difference is that this world is ruled by magic.”
“Yes, you did say that. But I want to make sure I have extra clothes and underwear. Are there malls or supermarkets here?”
Maia nodded.
“I don’t have any money,” Allie quickly added. “Do they have money changers or ATMs here?”
“We don’t use that. We only have gold and silver coins here.”
“Wow. See? I don’t have any gold.”
“You have a lot of gold. Wait until we reach the Kingdom of Lourz.”
The girl nodded.
“But I need a shower,” she said as Siera informed them that the bathroom was available for use.
---
Allie was in the middle of two girls. Zenda was on her right and Maia was on her left. This was the first time she would be sleeping beside someone, and they were even on the floor.
