What the fuck was their problem?? What was dad's problem?? Everyone vapes. It's not new. I packed enough stuff for a night and threw it in the car. I didn't want to talk to him. He spoke up about half an hour in

"You know, sweetheart, I'm not doing this because I enjoy seeing you upset" he said. Bullshit.

"obviously you do because you keeping fucking grounding me"

"I'm doing this because I love you and want what's best for you"

"you don't want what's best for me!!! you wanna ruin my life all because you hardly had a childhood because you were too busy karting and trying to get into F1!!!"

"You know that's not true, sweetheart"

"Look, I get that you're upset, and I understand where you're coming from. But please, don't say things you don't mean. I've always put you first, and I always will"

"Alright, let's try this another way. Remember when you wanted that new phone? Do you remember how excited you were when I said yes?"

"Well, imagine if I said no to that. Imagine how disappointed you would have been. That's how I feel when I see you making poor choices or disrespecting yourself. I want the best for you, and sometimes that means tough love"

"Look, I get that you're upset right now, and you feel like I'm the enemy"

"I know you feel that way right now, but please try to understand where I'm coming from. I love you more than anything else in this world, and seeing you hurt yourself or make poor choices breaks my heart"

"Because I care about you. Because I want what's best for you. And because I love you more than anything else in this world"

"As if. just admit that you and mum wanna get rid of me and put me up for adoption"

"Liliana, I would never do something like that. You know how much I love you"

"That's such bullshit!!!"

"Liliana, I understand that you're angry and hurt right now, but I need you to see the truth"

"what truth???"

"The truth is that I am your father, and I will always be here for you. No matter what happens, I will never abandon you or put you up for adoption"

"Yeah right"

"Liliana, please believe me. I would never do anything to hurt you. I've loved you since the moment I found out you were coming, and I will love you for the rest of my life"

"Fine. I'm done trying to get through to you" he said. I spent the night at my grandparents' house and in the morning they took me to Bristol and I got a train back to Cardiff. I had managed to bribe £60 off my grandma so I decided to treat myself. One perk that I got from mum was that I looked older than I actually was. I was 13 but I looked at least 16. I could easily get away with fake IDs. I decided to get a navel piercing. I had wanted one for ages and I knew mum and dad would never let me. I got it and then came back home. I went straight to my room and 5 minutes later I heard dad knock at my door. "Hey, Liliana..."

"What??"

"I'm disappointed in you, sweetheart. You know better than to drink alcohol or vape. And sneaking out like that... it's dangerous"

"I don't care, dad"

"But I do care, Liliana. And I love you too much to let you hurt yourself like that"

"okay, and...?"

"From now on, there will be consequences for your actions. If you break the rules again, you'll lose privileges like phone time or hanging out with friends. Do we understand each other?"

"I'm already grounded for as long as you said so that doesn't make much difference"

"I'm not just talking about your current punishment. If you continue to make these choices, there will be more consequences in the future"

"Okay, whatever"

"Don't talk to me like that. This is serious. You're not a little kid anymore, and I can't protect you from everything"

"good. I don't need protecting. I'm 13"

"You may be 13 years old, but that doesn't mean you don't need guidance and support. I'm here for you, always. But I also expect you to make responsible choices"

"you're gonna hate what I did before I came home then"

"What did you do...?" He said. I smirked and lifted up my shirt slightly so he could see the small bandage on top of my navel and he knew exactly what I had done. "Liliana, you know how much I hate it when you do things like this without talking to me first. You're only making things worse for yourself"

"but it's cool!!!"

"It's not cool, it's dangerous. Now you have a risk of infection, and you could get seriously ill. And this isn't the only piercing you've got, is it?"

"it is actually besides my ears which you took me to get pierced when I was 7. and I won't get an infection. I got it professionally done. Grandma gave me like £60 before I got on the train home so I went and got it with my fake id. plus, I like it"

"I know you like it, but that doesn't make it right. You could have waited until you were older or talked to me about it first"

"yeah but you would have said no anyways"

"Yes, I would have said no anyways because I want to keep you safe. Do you understand that?"

"whatever"

"Liliana..."

"What, dad??"

"I'm just worried about you, sweetheart. It's my job as your father to protect you from harm. And I feel like you're pushing me away right now"

"don't be worried then. I'm fine. plus, you're basically ruining my life anyways because you're grounding me until basically the end of time"

"Liliana, that's completely unfair. I'm trying to teach you a lesson here, and you're throwing a tantrum like a child"

"well technically I am still a child"

"You know what? You're right. You are still my child, and I should be more understanding. But I also can't just ignore the fact that you did something incredibly dangerous and irresponsible"

"it's not dangerous!!! it's just a piercing!!!"

"A piercing that could have left permanent damage? A piercing that could have infected you with diseases? That's a pretty big risk for something so unnecessary, don't you think?"

"you're so dramatic, dad!!! nothing is going to happen!!!"

"You're right. I am being dramatic. Because I love you and I don't want anything bad to happen to you. I want you to make smart choices, ones that you won't regret later on"

"I'm not gonna regret this piercing, dad!!!"

"I don't know what else to say. I'm sorry if I seem too strict, but it's because I care about you so much. Maybe we can discuss this again when your punishment is over?"

"Fine"

"Look, how about I take you on a McDonald's date? Just like we used to do when you were little"
