I held onto Winter tightly as she giggled, both of us still in my bed. Winter was full of excited energy and she could barely contain it. Eventually, she got off of me and sat at the edge of the bed.
"Mom, are you ready for the wedding?" Winter asked.
I sat up. "Yeah, of course. If you're so excited, go get your dress on and then come back in here to get your hair ready."
As she walked out, the hairdresser came in with my mom. Her name was Anne and she was pretty nice. She waited until I got into my dress before she started working on my hair. Anne put the top half of my hair into a bun while curling the bottom pair into waves. As she was spraying my hair with hair spray, the makeup artist, Grace, came in. She put a decent amount of makeup on my face to make me look decent. The entire time, Mom was taking pictures of me for a photo album she was making.
The time for the wedding was getting closer and closer. The knot in my stomach was getting tighter as I was getting more nervous. Winter had yet to come back in but I assumed she was with one of her grandparents.
Dad came into the room when it was time to walk down the aisle. We walked out with my mom and she went out to sit down before we did. I sighed and wiped the nervous sweat from my hands on my skirt.
Dad took my hands and smiled gently at me. "It's going to work out, honey. You don't need to worry."
I nodded as I tucked my arm in his. The music started and we started walking down the aisle. Everyone stood and turned to look at us. I smiled as my eyes rested on Austin. His uniform was on point and he was smiling widely at me. There were tears in his eyes as we got closer. I had told him once or twice that if he didn't cry when he saw me, I was turning around and starting over.
My dad took me to the aisle and left me with Austin. I took his hands, smiling at him.
Austin squeezed my hand. "Before we start, I have a surprise for you."
"What?" I asked.
He nodded down the aisle and when I looked, I saw Winter walking down the aisle with a bouquet of flowers in her hands. She was walking with crutches, instead with a prosthetic. I gasped, covering my mouth. My little girl was walking on her own. She got to us and I hugged her tightly.
"Baby, you're walking!" I exclaimed.
"I've been practicing!" Winter said. "Austin has been helping."
"Okay, okay," I said. "Go sit in the front row and we'll talk about it later."
Winter went to sit down and I turned back to Austin. He was grinning like an idiot.
"Did you like my surprise?" Austin asked.
"Yes," I replied. "Now, let's get this ceremony started. Everybody's waiting."
There were a couple chuckles in the crowd. The officiant started the wedding and we exchanged our vows. After the ceremony was finished, we walked down the aisle as people threw rice at us. We made our way into the house and into our room for a moment to ourselves. I barely had time to breathe before Austin hugged me tightly. I buried my face into his chest as I hugged him back.
"We're married," Austin mumbled.
"Yeah, we are." I pulled away. "When were you going to tell me that Winter had a prosthetic?"
Austin smiled. "We were going to surprise you today during the ceremony. We've been going to the doctor we had talked to before and had been going to physical therapy for awhile. This was one of the first few times that she was able to walk on her own."
I took both of his hands in mine. "You're the best, babe. I can't believe that you two were hiding it for so long."
Austin kept smiling. "We wanted it to be a surprise. We would say that we were going to the studio when we were really going to the doctor appointments. I suggested the idea of surprising you during the ceremony and Winter agreed."
I kissed his cheek. "I can't believe I have the best husband and daughter. Do you want to join the reception or wait a bit longer?"
"Why don't we join the reception?" Austin suggested. "We've been holding them off for long enough."
Austin took my hand and we joined the reception in the backyard. Everyone was laughing while drinking and eating the appetizers. I found Winter standing by the appetizer table with a plate, looking at the different dishes. She smiled at me as I came closer.
I squeezed her shoulders. "How does the new leg feel?"
"I love it," Winter said. "It sometimes hurts when I'm on it for too long but I'm glad that I can move more freely than with the crutches."
"That's good to hear," I said. "Just take breaks when you need to, okay?"
Winter nodded. I kissed her forehead and went to find Austin again. He was with some of his friends from the studio. They congratulated me as I wrapped my arm around Austin's waist. After we talked with them for a bit, we walked around greeting our guests. My face was starting to hurt from the smiling.
About half an hour later, everyone sat down and dinner started getting served. Austin and I were sitting at a long table in front of the group. After we ate, it was time for the speeches. Jay started and cracked some jokes about our friendship. Austin's best man got up next and once he was finished, a few others got up to make a quick speech about us.
After the speeches, it was time to cut the cake. I brought Winter with us to cut the cake. I wanted her to be included in some of the events in the wedding. The three of us had a hand on the knife as we cut the cake. It was placed a plate and I fed a bite to Austin. After he fed me a bite, I pushed some cake in his face. I laughed but Austin smeared some cake into my face. My jaw dropped but he kissed me. Mom came over with napkins for our faces.
We went over to our table as cake was passed out. Winter sat in my lap as we ate our cake. Teddy Swims made his way over and shook our hands, congratulating us. Winter got up and showed him her new leg. He had a surprised but happy expression.
"That's great!" Teddy exclaimed. "That means you can really learn how to play on the drum set."
"I hope so," Winter said. "I've been wanting to learn for so long."
"I'm sure your wonderful parents will help you with that," Teddy said. "I might even show up for a few lessons too."
Winter smiled up at Teddy. "I would really like that."
"Then that's what will happen," Teddy said. "I'll try to include you on some of my new songs that I'm making."
Winter gasped. "I would love that."
Teddy stayed for a few more minutes before leaving. He hugged us goodbye before leaving early. Austin and I decided to leave the reception. We weren't leaving for our honeymoon until the next day but we wanted a moment to ourselves. There weren't that many guests left at the party and my parents were there to watch Winter.
When we were in our room, Austin spun me around before pulling me close. "The dress you picked is beautiful."
I smiled at him. "Thanks. Your suit looks very handsome on you. I also think today was successful."
"Very successful," Austin said. "I can't wait for our honeymoon. I can't wait to spend time alone with my beautiful wife."
I wrapped my arms around his neck. "Why don't we start tonight? We're alone right now."
Austin grinned and kissed me roughly as he unzipped my dress. I started pulling off his suit as we moved towards the bed. I was stepping out of my dress as we got to the bed and Austin's suit was almost entirely out of his suit. He pushed me onto the bed, taking off the last of his clothes. Our wedding day was coming to a pleasurable end.
