I got in my Impala to drive to the airport to get Jay and some of my friends. They were coming for my bachelorette party and staying for the wedding. We were going camping about an hour away from the house. I wasn't interested in going partying and getting drunk. I wanted to spend some time in the forest, camping and jumping into the nearby river.
Winter was staying at the house with Katherine and my dad, Ben. Kimeya and Hassan were coming about two days before the wedding but my parents were willing to watch Winter. Austin's bachelor party was at the same time as mine but he was going to a city farther away to have his.
I arrived to pick up Jay, Nina, and Bex from the airport. They filled the trunk of my Impala with their luggage and we were on our way back to my house. We packed my car full of camping equipment, finally ready to go on my bachelorette party. I had to say goodbye to Winter and my parents before we left.
I hugged Winter tightly, not wanting to let her go. "I'm going to miss you, Bug."
"It's only going to be a couple of days, Mom," Winter said. "Besides, I'll be with Grandma and Grandpa. They're always the most fun."
I pulled away and ran a hand through her hair. "I love you, Bug. I'll see you in a few days."
"Have fun," Winter said.
"Don't get lost either," Mom said as she joined us.
I hugged my mom. "I'll see you guys in a few days, okay? And thank you for watching Winter, I appreciate it a ton."
"I don't mind," Mom said. "We're talking about my granddaughter. I'll do anything to spend time with her."
I said my final goodbyes before we were on our way. It didn't feel like a long drive but there were a lot of laughs. We got to the campsite and set up before it got dark. We had dinner by the campfire with smores following. I had my hammock so when it was time for bed, I laid there staring up at the stars. The sounds of the forest were a soft lullaby singing me to sleep. I fell asleep as the crickets sang a song I didn't understand.
I woke up to the morning sun peeking through the trees. Bex and Nina were already awake but Jay was nowhere to be seen. The three of us started getting breakfast ready. The day was cool and the smell of the forest was phenomenal. It was a relaxing start to the morning.
Jay finally woke up as we finished breakfast. She was rubbing her eyes as she sat at the picnic table. Once we finished breakfast, we got ready to go to nearby river. I wore my two piece with a swim shirt over it. We walked to the river, despite that it wasn't the closest. We had our towels, drinks, and some food so we didn't have to go back to our campsite.
We settle down with our stuff on the shoreline. I laid on my towel, staring up at the sky. There were a few clouds passing by and I was making shapes out of the different clouds. Eventually, I got too hot and I got into the water with Bex. The water was cool and felt good.
I sat on a rock with my legs in the water as I watched my surroundings. I talked with the others a little but it was mostly quiet. We were enjoying our time in nature and I knew that I wanted to stay there, in silence, as I sat in the river. I was thankful that my three bridesmaids loved nature too or else it wouldn't be as peaceful as it was.
We were on the river for a few hours before we returned to the campsite. I started prepping for dinner while the others started changing out of their swimsuits. Nina was the first one done and relieved me so I could shower and change. I returned to a fully cooked meal and my smiling friends. I sat with them, laughing at our antics. I was glad that I had the friends that I had. The trip was worth it with them beside me.
We took a hike through the forest after we ate. We were gone for a couple hours and returned when the sun was setting. I settled into my hammock and watched the stars again. I had a hard time falling asleep though. My mind was running too fast to be able to fall asleep. I was thinking about the wedding. We had everything planned out and I hoped it went smoothly. I was worrying that something would happen. There were so many unknowns.
I was marrying the love of my life and he was the most handsome man in the world to me. He treated Winter and I so well and I knew he loved us with all of his heart. I was only worried that something would happen and that was stressing me out.
Eventually, I got out of my hammock and started walking. I didn't know where I was going but I wanted to walk somewhere. I followed the road of the campground for about twenty minutes before turning around to return to the campsite. I was finally tired enough to fall asleep. After I climbed back into my hammock, I was asleep in about ten minutes.
