I woke up late. I must have missed my alarm and panicked, grabbing my phone. I saw a text from Jay that said she took Winter to school and to not worry about anything. I calmed down as I realized I didn't need to rush out the door.
I laid in bed for awhile before finally calling Austin. He picked up after a few rings, sounding just as groggy as me. We talked for a bit and he even updated me on his tour. It was coming to an end and he'd be flying back to Chicago to visit me.
It was very sweet that he'd spend his time with me, even after a long tour like the one he was on. He assured me several times while on the phone that he wouldn't post anything about Winter or I on his social media until we were both okay with it. I had never posted on social media very much but posted occasionally on my YouTube with music covers I did. I never showed Winter in those videos as I knew how creepy people could be with children. I didn't even mention her videos. It was just music and I had an alright following on it.
I finally went to make some food. I was starving but I didn't want to hang up on Austin. I changed to a video call so it was easier to make food. Austin was looking a bit tired but he was getting to the end of his tour. It was a bit expected.
"I should let you get to your food," Austin said.
"But what if I want to keep talking to you?" I asked.
"If you insist. How's Winter?"
"She's doing good and very well in school," I replied. "Her music teacher is very impressed with her skills."
"With a mom like hers, I'm not surprised."
"You compliment me."
"I've got to. You're my girlfriend."
"Okay. Well, I'll leave you to it and I'll see you in a few days."
"Alright. See you in a few days."
I hung up the phone, going back to cooking. When I was done, I made myself comfortable on the couch to eat. I yawned, wishing I had made some coffee to have with my lunch. Maybe a nap would do me well before my shift later. I didn't want to touch coffee until much closer to my shift.
Later in the afternoon, I picked up Winter from school and got her doing her homework before I went to take a nap. I felt bad about leaving Winter alone without adult supervision but Jay was going to be there in no time. She had keys and usually came right after work.
Plus, Winter was good about walking me up if there was an emergency, though she usually felt bad regardless. Winter knew I worked late and hard. She didn't want to wake me up because she knew I had to sleep. I didn't want her to feel that way but she did and it made me feel bad in turn.
I got up for my shift and got ready. Jay showed up to watch Winter for the night and I hugged the both of them goodbye. By the time I got there, it was already decently busy but I didn't mind. It kept my mind off of whatever I was thinking of before. And that night was a night I was singing for the crowd. That was a possibility as to why it was so busy. More people showed up when they knew I was going to be on stage.
I appreciated more people showing up. It meant more tips and time passed quicker. I always enjoyed singing and playing my guitar. I played other instruments as well but I most commonly played the guitar and piano on the nights I sang.
I didn't want a lot of fame like what Austin had. Small crowds like the one at the bar always did the trick for me. The fewer the eyes, the better, in my opinion. I didn't have stage fright but the amount of crowds that Austin brought in made me a bit uncomfortable. I preferred to be in a crowd like that, not on the stage in front of it.
My performance went off without a hitch. I returned to the bar and continued the shift. It was quite late when I got off. I was used to getting home well after dark and a very quiet home.
I was finally able to check my phone as I was getting ready for bed. Austin had texted me a couple of times, one of which was telling me when he'd be arriving in Chicago to visit me. That made me smile as I was finally able to see him again. I really liked him and I knew he'd treat Winter right.
Later that night, I returned home. I walked into a completely dark house. I checked on Winter before I went to my room. Before I went in, I saw there was light coming from beneath the door. I slowly went in and saw Austin sitting on the bed, looking through his phone.
He looked up at me and smiled. "Hey, Mack. How's it going?"
"Austin!" I exclaimed, going to him. "I didn't expect you to be here so soon!"
He got up to hug me. "I wanted to surprise you. I told you I had more shows so that I could do just that."
I looked him in his eyes, my arms still around his neck. "I love that. I missed you a lot. Did Jay let you in?"
Austin started pulling me toward the bed. "Yeah. I was talking to her so I could surpise you."
"You're lucky that I love you and missed you," I said. "Now what are you doing?"
"This." Austin pulled me onto the bed. I was burst out laughing as I laid there on his chest.
"You're crazy!" I exclaimed.
He held me tight. "No, just in love with the beautiful woman in my arms."
I rolled my eyes, blushing a little. "Then you really are crazy because I smell like a bar."
"You're still beautiful and I'm glad I came back early to see you."
"Me too," I replied. "Now, can you let me go so I can get changed?"
"If you insist."
I got off of him and changed into sleep clothes. Austin and I talked as we got ready for bed. It was like no time had passed between us. Maybe we really were supposed to be together.
We got in bed and I cuddled against Austin, my face buried in his chest. Austin held me as tightly as he could. We both missed each other greatly and couldn't let each other go for too long. I felt at ease with Austin and at home. So at ease that I fell asleep soon after we laid down.
