"Nooo....go awaaaay..." Alex mumbled into the pillows and put the blanket over his head.

Abby smiled to herself , then slowly took the blanket away from his head and put a kiss on his warm forehead.
She felt like having her lips against the oven, which made her worry a little more.

"Go away...please. You mustn't get ill because of me" Alex begged, looking up to her.
Abby simply ignored it and kissed his just as warm cheek, then sat back up next to him and took the cup she had brought.

"Here, my mother used to make me that when I had a fever. It helps, believe me."

Alex took the mug and drank from it
"Holy shit...what have you put in there??"
 Abby giggled "Family secret"
"Hey...I'm family too" Alex said with a tired smile.
She stroke over his cheek with the hand that the ring was on and felt a familiar happy, cozy feeling spread inside her
"But not yet on the paper" she smiled.
"Soon love...very soon" Alex mumbled and sank back into the pillows, ready for another few hours of sleep to get well again.

Abby put the blanket back over him and kissed his cheek again while leaning over him.
She also put her hand on his forehead to check his temperature; he was still too warm, almost hot, but nothing to worry too much about.
She had cared often enough for her brother to know when it was time to call a doctor, but she was sure that her fiancé would get well with more tea, some soup and lots of love.

Abby sat on the balcony, it was already past midnight and Alex sleeping peacefully.
His fever got a little better during the past few hours and she was sure that he would maybe need the next  day to recover but then he should be fine.

She light a cigarette from him and blew the smoke out into the dark night.

While sitting there cuddled into her warm jacket she started to play with the ring on her finger and had to smile to herself as soon as she noticed.

She looked at her hand, the ring.
This children's ring out of a bubblegum machine.
 Perfect for her.

Alex had told her that he was planning to ask her for quite a long time, but he never had the time to search for a good ring, he wanted her to have the perfect one.

So on that day where they headed for the wedding of Samantha and Max, he noticed one of those bubblegum machines at the train station while Abby was getting them coffee while waiting for the taxi.
And something inside him simply said DO IT! ASK HER! NOW!

So he took twenty pence to get a box with ring in it from the old kid's machine that he remembered from his own childhood, for five to twenty pence you could get chewing gum, cheap rings and necklaces or chocolate.

He didn't feel stupid when asking her to become his wife with a twenty pence ring from an old machine, he knew she would love the idea, and indeed she did.

She didn't even have to think her answer through, it was in immediate yes.

Alex told her that he would buy her a real engagement ring, but she said she liked the one she already got better than any ring for hundreds of pounds.

When she told her father and brother that she would marry Alex, the first thing she thought that she hadn't seen both so happy in a long time.
Also Alex's parents, especially his mother were so excited about those news and still had to smile when remembering Miles' face when they told him as well.

Actually they did not plan any further, also she told Alex that she would not mind when they would marry, as long as they will.

She had no worries at all, she loved him, he loved her, simple as that.
Both had jobs they loved and that took some time, but they lived together for five years now, so they knew the other better than anyone else.

Abby extinguished her cigarette and closed her eyes.
Soon she would be Mrs. Turner, she thought.
She loved this thought, she loved the fact that she was sitting on a balcony in New York city, with the noises of the vibrant, alive and magic city around her.
The only thing she did not love what that her soon-to-be-husband was laying in bed with a cold and fever.

So she got up, stopped by the kitchen to give Hamlet, their cat a midnight snack because he looked at her so begging and heartbreaking, then took a cup of tea with extra much honey in it with her to the bedroom and placed it next to Alex, who was still asleep, before she snuggled under the blanket and hugged him tight to her chest.

"What are you doing here?" he whispered sleepy and kind of knocked-out.
"Cuddling you well again. No complains! You have no contagious zombie-virus, just some normal fever. And that's no reason for me to sleep on the couch." she explained and stroke over his back.

Alex simply smiled and moved into a more comfortable position for her, slowly drifting back to sleep laying his fiancé's arms.
