*Xavia's POV*

As the Heavenly portal returned me to our home, quite literally at the same spot I had left, the scene unfolding before my eyes was nothing short of devastating. I saw Raziel in his monkey form—head hung low, attempting to clean up the wreckage. Aubrey was on the couch, cradling Grace's head in her lap, her hands trembling as she tried to keep her alive by holding a blood-soaked towel over my mate's chest.

My beautiful Grace was on her side, barely moving, her breathing very shallow and labored—almost nonexistent. I thanked the Heavens that I could hear the faint sounds, but to a human, Aubrey's best friend, unfortunately, she looked dead. I was positive that Raziel was reminding her that Grace was, in fact, still holding on. Nevertheless, the scene still frightened her to the core.

Which I understood without a doubt.

From a distance, I knew she battled fiercely; her body was covered in bruises, and I could feel every ounce of her pain as if it were my own. It was just as God said it would be; I felt everything she did, but... it wasn't as intense. Though I had only stood there briefly to observe everything around me, panic surged through my body.

I rushed to her side.

I knelt in front of Aubrey, asking as my voice trembled with urgency, "What happened to her?"

Aubrey replied, her eyes filled with sorrow and fear, "While we were at the park, she said you called for her, that she needed to help you, and she flew to the building. Raziel and I made our way back as fast as possible, and when we came up here, we found her like this. The demon's corpse is over there."

She pointed to the lifeless body, and I turned my head, finally seeing the remains of Brir'gath. I felt pride swell, knowing that my mate had won the battle. I completely missed that... No matter, that bitch isn't important right now. She got everything she deserved, too.

"When Raziel and I came in, Grace looked like this. I kept the sword inside of her... if I pulled it out, she would bleed out faster. I've been trying to stop the bleeding, but nothing is helping. I'm so sorry." Aubrey added, doing her best not to keep crying.

"It's okay, Aubs. Don't worry..." I said, my voice softer now. "You did your best, and you helped her—you did. You kept her alive so I could save her. Everything will be okay, I promise."

I reached out, calling to Grace with my mind, "Baby, please wake up. I need you to push through this and use whatever energy you have left. You need to drink from me. It's the only thing that's going to save you."

A few seconds later, Grace's weak response came through, "Xavia, you're here... I'm so glad you're okay."

"I am okay. Please do this for me. I need you to focus." I said.

Grace's eyes fluttered open, and she managed a weak smile and whispered, "I love you," before her eyes closed again.

"No, baby, none of that now," I said as I lifted her off of Aubrey and into a sitting position on the floor despite her pained grunts.

"I'm so sorry; I know that hurts. Now look at me. Promise me you'll stay awake. Please," I pleaded.

"I promise," she stuttered, her voice barely audible, yet it was firm in her resolve to keep the promise she had just made to me.

Transforming into my Nephalem form, I saw the shock in Aubrey's eyes, but I would address her questions after I knew Grace was healed.

Grace muttered softly, "So beautiful, Xavia."

I blushed, feeling the truth of her words.

It doesn't matter what our situation is; my mate always makes me feel amazing.
