*Grace's POV*
After I had the vision, Xavia and I left the powerful elderly supernatural beings and took flight. The time it took to arrive at the scene in question was much faster than the first go around. I figured it had to do with the fact that we had a much better understanding and lay of the land. Eventually, we reached the area where my vision was; we hovered to observe the scene below.
But nothing at all was happening as it did in my vision.
It really upset and worried me.
Have I gotten everything in my premonition wrong? Will I be the reason many unnecessary deaths are caused? Are we going to be able to stop the rise of the second Horseman of the Apocalypse?
My mind was reeling and going haywire.
When I looked at Xavia, she even looked confused, and even through my panicked voice, I promised, "Love, I know what I saw... something does happen here."
"Let's land and get on the ground before we are causing panic," my mate suggested, not wanting to draw unnecessary attention to us, which was brilliant.
The look she had just given me instantly calmed my nerves; I knew she trusted me, my visions, and what I spoke of. We soon found a building to descend to and, with haste, blended into the crowd as best as possible. The atmosphere started to change into a sense of dread as Xavia and I reached the outskirts of the bustling restaurant district. The streets were alive with an evening crowd, couples enjoying evening dinners, and friends laughing over shared meals.
But beneath the veneer of normalcy, I could feel an undercurrent of something sinister brewing, a dark energy that set my nerves on edge.
I knew Xavia felt it, too.
It reverberated within us.
As we weaved through the groups of people, my attention was drawn to a particular couple seated at a quaint little bistro that was looking at us, too. One woman had an ethereal beauty about her—caramel brown, wavy hair cascading down her back, eyes that seemed to hold centuries of secrets. Her companion, a petite copper-hair-colored woman with sparkling golden-amber eyes, radiated warmth and quiet strength. There was something different about them, something... supernatural.
I glanced at my mate and saw that she had noticed them, too, her eyes narrowing slightly in curiosity.
In all our time on Earth, we had rarely encountered other supernatural beings who made their presence known. Most preferred to stay hidden, blending seamlessly into the human world. But this couple was different; their auras were strong and unmistakable. I wondered if the humans knew what they were or if they hid it well, too. I could feel their power, a complex mix of energies that intrigued me.
One thing was unmistakable... they were mates—the way they looked at each other told me so.
Unfortunately, chaos erupted around us.
Several buildings crumbled under the force of what was coming, and several humans were in harm's way. However, the caramel-brown-haired woman flashed by with such blinding speed that I barely noticed it—she carefully pushed her mate and five humans out of the way just as large debris crashed down from above.
"Holy shit, she is fast. Even I almost missed that," I whispered to Xavia, my eyes wide in amazement.
Suddenly, Xavia's attention was drawn to a police car that screeched to a halt nearby, and I watched as well. The officer exited his vehicle, and it looked as though he was going to help, but... that wasn't the case as he started shooting anyone in his sight. The first shot rang out, hitting a man across the street from where the vampyre couple was. Panic erupted around us as people began running, grabbing whatever they could use as weapons.
