Ana's POV

It was a chilly evening when I stepped into the Black Veil's yard. The place was bustling with activity, filled with agents, but I was searching for one person in particular.

I spotted Lisa tucked away in a corner and quickly made my way over to her. We had become good friends during my time here, and I was thrilled to see her again.

"Hey, girl! How's everything going?" I asked, my excitement bubbling over.

"Oh, look who's back! I'm doing great! I was just wondering when you'd show up. How was your romantic getaway with your fiancé?" She flashed a big grin and burst into laughter, clearly enjoying the moment.

"Well, it was okay," I replied, trying to hide my disappointment. "Honestly, I really missed this place. Does that sound strange?" I added, feeling a bit confused about my own feelings.

"You're the first person I've heard say they missed coming back to work!" she laughed, her voice ringing out and catching the attention of a few others nearby.

But as I chatted with Lisa, my eyes kept darting around the yard. I felt restless, as if I was waiting for something—or someone.

"Who are you looking for?" Lisa suddenly asked, stepping in front of my wandering gaze.

"Oh, it's my partner. Have you seen him?" I expressed my concern, disappointment creeping into my voice since I couldn't find him anywhere.

"V? I think I saw him earlier," she replied, sounding a bit puzzled. "Why are you looking for him? Missing him already? Haha!" She tried to joke, completely unaware of how true that was for me.

Before I could respond, I spotted Xavier leaning against a large wall at our sports building, talking to a girl who seemed eager to chat with him. A wave of unease washed over me at the sight, but I was also thrilled to see him again. Suddenly, the girl moved in closer to him, even touching his arm as they conversed. My heart raced with jealousy, and before I could fully think it through, I found myself walking straight towards them.

"Hey, am I interrupting something?" I blurted out, not caring how desperate I sounded.

Xavier looked at me in confusion, as if he hadn't realized I was back or understood why I had interrupted their conversation. The girl turned to me, her surprise quickly turning into anger.

"What's your problem? Yes, you are interrupting us! I was just trying to get to know him," she snapped, clearly annoyed.

"I'm sorry, but I really need to talk to my partner right now!" I shot back at her, giving her a fierce look as I pulled her hand away from Xavier's arm.

"Sorry, weren't you engaged?" she raised her voice, drawing the attention of others around us. "I remember you saying that at the campfire gathering!" she added, visibly frustrated with my presence. "Why can't you just let him have a conversation? What's your issue?"

Her words hit me hard; she was right, and I felt deeply embarrassed as I realized how I was drawing unwanted attention to my inappropriate impulse.

"Ana's right, I actually forgot about an important discussion we needed to have tonight," Xavier said suddenly, placing his hand on my shoulder and gently leading me away.

I could tell he understood how embarrassed I felt about my outburst. Rather than scold me, he quietly guided me to a darker, quieter spot, giving me space to gather my thoughts without making me feel worse for my impulsive reaction.

"I'm really sorry. I don't know why I messed up your conversation," I said softly, feeling embarrassed as I tried to pull myself together.

"It's fine. I was looking for a way to escape from her clingy behavior anyway," he replied calmly, his eyes fixed on me with a hint of curiosity.
