A week had passed since that awkward encounter with Derek. Putting that aside, everything has been really great.
I've been sitting with my new friends at lunch every day and also hanging out with Allison and Lydia nearly every day after school. Lydia is actually very, very smart, like Harvard level smart. Allison is sweet, but she definitely isn't a pushover, which I appreciate.
Jax even said this morning before I left for school that I "just look happier". She works so much, but I know that it makes her day better knowing we're doing okay.
Scott said he's having people over tonight because his mom is working the graveyard shift at the hospital. Lydia added that there would be alcohol; THESE are the people I would enjoy drinking with.
I don't know a lot about Scott, but I feel safe around him. It's hard to explain, but it feels like at any moment he's ready to protect all of us, no matter the cost. It's equally comforting and unsettling.
I was driving Emily and myself home, so we can both get ready to hang out with people. When she said something that caught me off guard:
"Do you like anyone?"
"Like is such an immature word." I said half laughing.
Emily slapped my arm. "Oh, stop being so pretentious, you know what I mean."
"I don't think I know anyone enough to say that I would enjoy spending more time with them."
"Okay, well do you think anyone is cute?" she asked.
I paused. Cute is not the word I would use.
"You do! Tell me right now!" she exclaimed while she clapped.
"No! It's nothing." I really hoped she wouldn't pry, but I knew that she would.
"Spill, right now!" she yelled.
"Okay, Jesus. There was this guy that saved me from some creep at the bonfire I went to about a week ago, don't tell Jax about that, it was nothing, and NO I don't want to talk about it. I ran into him again and he's kind of struggling so I offered for him to stay in the spare bedroom until he gets on his feet. Don't get me wrong, he is one of the most attractive men I have ever seen, but that's not even what draws me to him. There's something about his eyes, like there's a story to be told. But I don't even know him. I don't even know his last name!"
Emily paused so she could process everything I just said.
"So, do you have a picture of him?"
I rolled my eyes. "That's really what you took away from everything I just said?"
-----------
I don't usually put on makeup or wear really cute clothes, but I've been in such a good mood lately that I did tonight.
We all got to Scott's around 9:00. The drinks started flowing at 9:05. It's now 10:00, and let me just say, if a drink is in front of me, it doesn't last too long. I was having a lot of fun, but it was definitely time to drink some water.
"So Kylie, you're a senior?" asked Stiles.
"Yes."
"Can you set me up with some of the hot girls in your grade?" asked Stiles. Scott promptly pushed him and Stiles put his hands in the air.
Scott laughed then asked, "So when do you turn 18?"
"Over two years ago." I said taking a sip of water.
Everyone looked at me like I was crazy. Oh no, please tell me I didn't ruin this.
"Wait you're 20?" asked Allison.
"Yes, it's a really long story. I got held back two years."
"You're smart though." Lydia stated.
"Like I said, really long story. Definitely not a topic for tonight."
"Okay, well you have to tell us at some point." said Stiles.
I nodded. I'm sure I would eventually, I really like them all. This just wasn't the time, but we all went back to laughing and having a great time. Until, someone started banging on the door.
We all stopped talking and turned down the music. Scott looked like he was trying to focus really hard. Then, Scott looked at everyone and got up to answer the door. Was I missing something? They all looked like they knew something that I didn't.
I heard Scott talking to someone at the door, but I couldn't exactly hear what they were saying. Then, I heard footsteps coming towards us, but definitely more than just Scott's. I turned around to find Scott standing next to someone.
Derek?
I'm sure my face showed all of my confusion. Derek made eye contact with me and his eyes almost bulged out of his head, but he didn't comment on me being here.
"You all need to get ready, he's coming here. Scott, if you care about your house, move the party somewhere else." he commanded.
What the hell does he mean "he's coming here"?
Allison looked at me and said, "Kylie, come with me to Scott's room really quick."
"No, I'll take her home and I'll be back to help." said Derek.
"Can someone tell me what the fuck is going on?"
Before anyone could answer, Derek grabbed my arm and lead me out of Scott's house.
